Protests mar council secretaries, supervisors screening in Lagos

The screening exercise for the appointed Secretaries to the Local Governments (SLGs) and Supervisory councilors in Lagos state were on Monday marred by protest over alleged alteration of the approved list by the government.

It was gathered that the list for each councils includes the SLG and six other Supervisory councilors, to assist the council chairman in the implementation of their electoral promises.

The screening came barely four days after Lagos State government approved appointment of SLGs and Supervisors for the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the State.

The protesters, who were largely All Progressives Congress (APC) members, stormed Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, alleging that the list of appointees earlier sent by the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, to Agege Local Government, has been altered.

According to the protesters, who stormed office of the Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule, the names that were never in the list forwarded by the governor was invited for screening by the Councilors.
