Breaking News: Kidnapped Ekiti artisan, ex-House of Assembly member released

Two Ekiti indigenes kidnapped five days ago, Mr Jacob Olugbade and former Ekiti State House of Assembly member, Mr Isiaka Rafiu have been released. Irohinoodua learnt this morning that they were released in the dark, early hours of today.
The two were kidnapped in Ondo State on their way to Ekiti State. Sources told our correspondent that the two were kept in the bush since the day of their kidnap.
There was no confirmation of the ransom paid but our correspondent heard that the families of the abductors were making contacts with friends all throughout yesterday to meet the 10 million naira ransom demanded for. It was uncertain as at press time how much ransom was paid to the kidnappers.
“They were kept in the darkest part of the forest. They were poorly fed. The kidnappers are obviously of indigenes of the Maghreb given their accent. They are most likely to be people from Niger Republic. They spoke Arabic and another dialect similar but not the same with Arabic”, a family source told Irohinoodua.
A new dimension was added to the kidnap saga following speculations that they were kidnapped less than five minutes’ drive from a police post. One source told our correspondent that the police may not be unaware of the activities of the kidnappers given the look warm attitude of the security operatives following reports lodged by families of the victims.
Another security source listed reasons for the rampant cases of kidnap across the country: Some kidnappers are members of the terrorist Boko Haram group. Kidnapping had become one of the major ways of raising funds for the terror campaign. Other kidnappers do so as an economic crime committed to meet their financial needs while the third category are those who kidnap people for rituals.
