The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNHCR) has disclosed that no fewer than 70,000 persons in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have been displaced following renewed violence in the country.

Before the present displacement, the UN agency stated that over 1.5 million people have been forced to flee their homes in 2017, increasing number of internally displaced persons to 3.9 million, the largest number in any country on the African continent.

According to the agency, the survey in Tanganyik, south East region and other parts of the country indicated that priority needs of over 8.5 million displaced persons seeking humanitarian assistance include food security, health, education, shelter and protection.
