Only UNILAG Has Full Accreditation For Law In Nigeria by Nobody: 8:19am On Nov 09, 2017
Only University of Lagos (UNILAG) has full accreditation to offer Law among public and private universities in the country.

The Council of Legal Education disclosed this in a list of accredited and approved faculties of Law in Nigeria published on Wednesday and signed its Secretary and Director of Administration of the Council.

The accreditation of three universities; Lagos State University, University of Abuja and Benue State University have been suspended.

Twenty seven others have Provisional Accreditation; five have Interim accreditation while 19 others have approval to commence.

According to the Council, Suspended Accreditation means the faculty of Law has its accreditation suspended while those with Interim accreditation are still subject to further accreditation.

The facilities of those given approval to commence still have to be subjected to further verification for Interim Accreditation status.

The Council explained that the accreditation status and approved quotas of recognized faculties was published for the benefit and guidance of the public, parents and students.

So with this we can conclude that on average Federal universities are still the best in offering Law in naija.
University of Abuja seems to be the black sheep - it is clearly a badly run university.

Statsocial, I still feel school with below 150 shouldn't even run the programme. They make life miserable for their students by dishing them extremely poor grades. Unfortunately, their gullible students still believe the poorer their grades are, the better product they become after graduation.

But ABU has higher rating with 280 na while unilag has 270.

ABUAD has higher rating in law than University of Ibadan shocked

Most state Universities in Nigeria are nothing to write home about. They are usually weakly ranked on almost all rankings

Apart from ABUAD and maybe Babcock most other private universities on that list shouldn't be running law yet...

I honestly can't tell what those figures mean, it may mean ABU is simply be due for full accreditation too.

I have never heard a good news from uni Abuja. The school should just be converted to a tutorial centre and save candidates the burden of running several programmes yet to be accredited.

Honestly, I don't understand either, and interestingly even students of the school complain bitterly. It kind of feels like it is a state or low end private university. For it to lose accreditation when even Edwin Clarke University could manage to get shows the situation of Uniabuja is critical.

It seems even the govt has giving up. Some years ago NUC officials too were lamenting that there was not one single good university in the Nations capital. But clearly sha that is about to change with private individuals now coming in to build private varsities there...

Indeed it is just too poor. But the truth is many of these universities shouldn't even be existing in the first place talk less of seeking law accreditation.

You see school like Edwin Clarke University, Gregory University and you would wonder what the hell is wrong with NUC for accrediting them in the first. Many of these universities don't even have a sustainable plan and may not even exist in the next few years.

The state universities too are equally useless. They should just thank their stars that other accreditation bodies like COREN, ARCON etc aren't releasing data then you would see the true rot in Nigeria's higher education.
Lalasticlala pls move this to FP

Those numbers are the maximum of candidates to be admitted per session by the law faculties in those universities.

It is better for one to be very certain about facts before asserting them.

I'm not surprised by the list to be honest, the council of legal education has gradually brought sanity to the system which some of us suffered from.

When you hear uniabuja's full story....including how the first VC messed up the place....you will understand why.

Prof Yaqub tried to fix the mess when he was in charge ten years ago....but the damage had been done.

Exactly, cos not many people in in Nigeria know how to comprehend what they've read. They would think it means it's only Unilag that can admit Law Students, whereas what the message says is different

Tha is not true, how does number of accredited correlates with performance? Take for example Adekunle Ajasin University in Ondo state. The faculty has just 70 students quota for admission into law school and admits around that range too. Except for few faculties in thr country we have one of the best in the country coupled with being the cheapest state university. You can correlate this by checking our performance in law school, we have produced at least one first class student in law school in the last four years and only 2 people have achieved that here. Most of the universities thrive on big name sir.
