Topic:
Be Perfect

Read:
Matthew 5:48

Memorise:
Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect (Matthew 5:48)

Exposition:
We are in a time that holiness is almost becoming impracticable. Everything happening within and without the church, shows we are in the perilous time. The counterparts of Daniel were looking for ways to get him, but they could not find any offence, by which they could nail him, except by his God. Can that be said of any believer today? Christians are called to a consecrated life, “Be holy as God is holy”. There is strong debate on whether or not a Christian could live without sin in this corruption-flooded world. Daniel lived amidst the ungodly, and he successfully represented God. What then does it entail to maintain one's Christian testimony in the midst of this godless and corrupt society?

1. It entails following Christ's pattern only. Christ was the only man who lived in this world of perversions, and was not perverted. 2. Perfection is not a bunch of rules and regulations, but a life style devoid of deception (lies), cheating, evil jealous, greed, lust, adultery, idolatry, unbelief and double-mindedness, etc. 3. Above all else, perfection demands that when a believer unconsciously or mistakenly falls into sin, he should be ready, effortlessly, to confess the sin and make necessary amends (Pro. 28:13 I Jhn. 2:1). Based on the issue of confession of sin, an idea gotten from Psalm 51, David in spite of his wrongs was confirmed by God to have followed Him perfectly, with wholehearted devotion (I kings 14:cool. You too can stay perfect with sincere readiness to ask God to forgive all your wrongs.

Prayer points:
1. Give the believers the humble and contrite heart to follow You wholeheartedly, in Jesus’ name.

2. Help me to pursue holiness and the character of Christ; I refuse to live at variance with Christ.

3. The life of Christ should be the life that our Church leaders would be living privately and publicly. Give them this grace, Oh Lord, in Jesus’ name.

Extra Reading for Today:
Proverbs 9 – 12.
