No going back on Gelegele Seaport project – Edo Govt

I must add that we are ready to work with all organs of government to realise this project as it will impact greatly on the economy of the state and region,” the governor said. He explained that the seaport will be located where there is enough gas that can be used to generate electricity and power industries. “There is sufficient economic justification for the Gelegele port and we will raise funds from the private sector to develop the facility.

We do not believe that the federal government will stop or discourage Edo State from building a Port that is economically viable,” he added. Obaseki said the seaport is on course as his administration is talking to consultants who are currently working on the designs and conducting studies on water depth, the width of the river and the amount of dredging needed. He assured Edo people that a lot is being done to make the project a reality within the shortest and realistic time possible.

When this man asserted weeks ago that his state is going to build a seaport by any means necessary and even dared the FG to stop him, people or maybe I should say Igbos thought he was joking, now he's topping it off with an industrial PARK.

Food for thought:::

Good, credible, responsible leaders with great vision and strong sense of duty and state pride don't wait or beg beg other people aka the FG to do everything for them, they don't beg for roads, they don't beg for bridges, they don't beg for airport and they don't beg for seaport, they don't even place their economic future, economic growth and destinies in the hands of other people aka the FG like the lazy, incompetent, zero vision and sidon look governors in the SE.

Obaseki, Mahindra Group conclude arrangement on Benin Industrial Park

All is set for the smooth take-off of the planned Benin Industrial Park with the receipt of the Preliminary Report by Governor Godwin Obaseki from the Mahindra Group in India, on Monday.

A visibly elated Obaseki, who is accompanied by the Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Cooperatives and Employment, Hon. Emmanuel Usoh, and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Kadiri Bashiru, on the investment drive in Asia, said the Industrial park would serve as the catalyst for the industrialisation of Edo State.

Receiving the Preliminary Report of the Industrial Park from officials of Mahindra Group, at their headquarters in Chennai, India, Obaseki expressed confidence in the capacity of the company to deliver the project in line with the vision of the state government.

The governor said he “was impressed with the Preliminary Report by the Mahindra Group, which outlines the sequence of the project implementation, after their visit to Benin City for a thorough assessment of the economic viability of developing an industrial park in Edo State.”

He explained that the project was well thought out, as it would maximise the location of Benin City, from where all parts of the country can be accessed, coupled with the abundance of natural gas, the low cost of production, access to water and availability of affordable labour.

He assured that his administration was committed to leveraging on the gains of technology to boost economic activities by replicating in Nigeria, a Silicon Valley.

“We visited the headquarters of the Indian company in March, this year, to share our idea of an Industrial Park with officials of the company. Three months later, the company came to Benin City for a feasibility study and today we are happy that we are ready to hit the ground running” Obaseki said.

Edo gets LSE’s partnership nod on Alaghodaro Summit

Obaseki, Fayemi, Onyema discuss Edo, Nigeria investment opportunities at London Stock Exchange

As more transnational companies, multilateral organisations and several trade missions swell the numbers and ranks of participants in the maiden edition of Alaghodaro Investment Summit, the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, was at the London Stock Exchange on Friday to speak to companies listed on the London bourse about the investment opportunities that abound in the state.

Also at the London event are the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Mr. Oscar Onyema and the Director General of the Debt Management Office, Ms Patience Oniha, who presented data to show Nigeria’s way to recovery after exiting economic recession.

At a panel session entitled “The Nigerian Opportunity,” Obaseki who first came to the London Stock Exchange 30 years ago, took his audience of global business leaders through the opportunities in Agro processing, mining, infrastructure, education and healthcare amongst other sectors in the state.

According to the governor, Alaghodaro Investment Summit is part of his administration’s drive to open up the state for more foreign and local investments and build a modern and progressive Edo state where every citizen is empowered with opportunity to live life in its fullness.

His detailed and insightful presentation elicited the positive responses from the London Stock Exchange and international business leaders who assured that they would attend the Alaghodaro Summit in Benin City holding from November 10-12.

He paraded the investment opportunities Edo State is offering investors such as the huge land mass for agro and agro-allied businesses and a favourable weather condition that have sustained the investments of Presco Plc. and Okomu Plc., both listed companies and the biggest projects financed on the continent-

Azura-Edo Power Plant, which is showcasing project opportunities in the State.

He told the audience at the London bourse that Alaghodaro which means moving forward in Edo language is a clear 30-year vision for the state, covering Institutional Reform, Economic Development, Social Welfare, Environmental Sustainability, and Art, Culture and Tourism

He explained that his adminstration is in a hurry to mainstream the private sector in governance to harness the sector’s huge capital and expertise for an efficient public sector.

“We are determined to see how the active collaboration between the state and the private sector can produce a win-win situation for both parties. The essence of our government is to serve as an enabler for businesses to thrive,’’ he said.

Obaseki said that his decision to mark his one-year anniversary in office with Alaghodaro Investment Summit stems from the state government’s conviction that public-private partnership holds the key to unlocking the vast investment potential in the state.

He added that participants would include local and international business leaders, investors seeking new environments where governments are committed to providing incentives for businesses, policy makers, industry experts as well as academia.

Mahindra, Tolaram, Dangote to Showcase $1.5bn Investment in Edo

As preparations hit top gear for the Edo State Investment Summit tagged Alaghodaro 2017, international industrialists including the Mahindra Group of India, Tolaram Group from Singapore and Dangote Group are set to showcase their over $1.5bn investment outlay in the state.

The Dangote Group proposes extensive investment in cement manufacturing in Okpella axis of the state estimated at over $1bn, which is strategic to extending the frontiers of the conglomerate in southern Nigerian. The plant is expected to take advantage of Edo’s strategic location as a logistics hub linking eastern, northern and western parts of the country, in moving its finished products across the country. The state’s massive limestone deposit is also a major consideration for investments in cement manufacturing. The Mahindra Group is partnering with the state government in building the Edo Industrial Park, on which major industralisation efforts in the state would be anchored. The Industrial Park will be situated at Ologbo in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the state, and would serve as a hub to train human capital and engage major industries in the state.

The implementation plan has been concluded and submitted to the state government. On its part, Tolaram Group will, at the summit, showcase its over $50m agro-allied investment outlay, which covers oil palm, cassava to feed processing plant, expected to create 50,000 jobs across the state.
