Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has disclosed that his administration has spent a whooping N208 million naira to empowerment over 5,200 tea sellers popularly known as Mai Shayi in the state.

The Governor made the announcement on Saturday during an empowerment programme at the Government House, Kano.

According to Ganduje, the beneficiaries were selected from 484 wards in the 44 local government areas of the state.

In his words;

“OUR GOVERNMENT ATTACHES SO MUCH IMPORTANCE TO EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME BECAUSE AT THE END, THE BENEFICIARIES WILL BE SELF-RELIANT, THEREBY IMPROVING THE ECONOMIC CAPACITY OF THE STATE,”.
Each of the beneficiaries were given a N40,000 worth of empowerment packages – beverages, noodles, pasta, margarine, eggs and cooking oil – to improve their businesses.

The state’s Commissioner for Local Government, Murtala Sulengaro, said that the programme was designed to improve their standard of living.

Ali Sani, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the governor for the gesture and promised to use the items judiciously.

Let us do a simple mathematics here: 208,000,000 divided by 5,200 = 40,000. 40,000 for Indomie, Eggs, Bournvita, milk and sugar... grin grin grin Aside the stupidity of the programme, it is glaring that it is another conduit pipe to siphon the country's wealth. I am suggesting a new agency of the government to deal with Allocation mismanagement, Allocation Mismanagement Commission that would have power to prosecute any leader for mismanaging the nation's commonwealth. Let EFCC and ICPC deal with Embezzlement.

I really do not see anything wrong with empowering these small scale business men.

Bottom line, they have been impacted by government, they are gainfully employed and are not constituting a menace to society.

Better than spending millions buying wheelbarrows in the name of youth empowerment.

This Government is a joke. What happened to injecting funds into cottage industries in Bompai in kano. Empower people with chai. When they don't see people to patronize them all that shit is going into thier stomachs. We think short term in this country. Never long term. All this is just against 2019. Dumb set of politicians at the helm of affairs in this country
