The long neglected Ministry of Solid Ministry is witnessing a revisit. Hon, Abubakar Bawa Bwari, the Minister of State for Solid Minerals Development was first seasoned in the National Assembly for eight years before becoming a Minister, eight years after leaving the Federal House of Representatives where he served as Chief Whip from 1999 – 2007. While in the Assembly, he was elected Vice President of the African, Caribbean, Pacific and European Union (ACP-EU) Joint Parliamentary Assembly in Brussels. In 2000, Nigeria hosted the Joint Assembly for the first time and he was Chairman of the planning committee. The event hosting was so well managed that it was adjudged the best in 25 years, for which he was awarded Officer in the Order of Leopold (the highest honour bestowed on a foreigner) by His Majesty King Albert II of Belgium in 2004. Abubakar Bawa Bwari holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography (1986) and a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning (1990) from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
