Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo, has performed the inauguration of new Students Union Executives (SUE) in the institution. The college also announced that it has emerged the best College of Education in Nigeria for the year 2017.

The Provost of the College, Prof. Olukoya Ogen, made the announcement at the weekend while performing the inauguration ceremony for the 2017\2018 Student Union Executives held at the campus of the institution in Ondo city.

According to the Provost, “Just four days ago, we emerged as the best College of Education in Nigeria. That is the third time running that we are recording such feat, the Webometrics ranking of 2015, 2016 and 2017 confirmed us.

” We are not competing with the Colleges of Education, we are competing with the Universities,” he stated.

While emphasising the need for students of the College to be proud of the institution, Ogen, a Professor of History, explained that the rain of awards coming the way of the college from both local and international organisations, are testimonies to the fact that the citadel of learning has been recognised as one of the best tertiary institutions, not only in Nigeria, but within the African Continent.

Speaking on the just concluded SUE election, the ACE helmsman congratulated the entire students of the College, for the display of maturity before, during and after the conduct of the election and reiterated the resolve of his administration to continue to implement programmes that would put smiles on the faces of both staff and students of the institution.

He assured of introduction of new innovations in the delivery of people oriented projects that would boost physical and intellectual aesthetics during the new academic session in the College.

Earlier in his address, the Dean, Student Affairs in the institution, Mr. Olakanye Olaluwoye described the occasion as very important adding that the reforms brought into the electoral process by the Provost, through the introduction of electronic voting ( e-voting) has brought sanity and boost confidence of the people in the conduct of students union election in the institution.

Olaluwoye commended past leadership of the students body in the College particularly those at the helms of affairs during the 2015\2016 and 2016\ 2017 academic sessions for embracing dialogue instead of confrontation in dealing with the College Management.

He observed that the development has brought peace and created awareness in the mind of the students and popularised the statement that students unionism has transcended beyond display of hooliganism in the institution.

Harping on the need for the newly inaugurated students union leaders to serve diligently, Olaluwoye equally advised them to shun greed, selfishness or any act capable of tarnishing their image.

He reminded students of the College to be good ambassadors by emulating the current Provost of the College, Prof. Olukoya Ogen and his Deputy, Dr. Samuel Akintunde and other important personalities in the society who include the immediate past Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Dibu Ojerinde and Senator Oluremi Tinubu who were once students of the institution.

Also in his address after he was sworn in, the new Student Union President, Zubair Taofeek, thanked students of the College for giving him the mandate to lead them.

He gave assurance that his leadership would consolidate the gains from his predecessors and cooperate with the College Management in their resolve at advancing accelerated development in the College.

Similarly, the outgoing Students Union President for the 2016/2017 session, Omoseebi Oluwatobilola expressed gratitude to the students populace and the College management for the support given to his administration.

Oluwatobilola, however, charged his successor to shun confrontation, but embrace dialogue when dealing with the College Management, saying the step would engender smooth relationship and foster development in the College.

The highpoint of the event was the admission of oath of office on the Students Union by the College Acting Registrar, Mrs Olufisayo Fakorede.
