A hairdresser has been found guilty of deliberately trying to infect 10 Grindr dates with HIV.

Daryll Rowe, 27, sent a message to one of his lovers after sleeping
with them saying ‘Maybe you have the fever. I came inside you and I have HIV LOL. Oops!’

Rowe was successful in five of his attempts to transmit the virus when he tampered with the condoms or had unprotected sex with the men.

According to Metro, one partner had insisted he use a condom, but Rowe later told him in an abusive phone call: ‘I ripped the condom. You’re so stupid, you didn’t even know.’

The 27-year-old was convicted of five counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, and five counts of attempting to do so on Wednesday afternoon at Lewes Crown Court.

A jury of seven women and five men heard his case and deliberated for over 10 hours after retiring last Wednesday.

Prosecutor Caroline Carberry QC described his alleged crimes as ‘a cynical and deliberate campaign to infect other men with HIV’, adding: ‘Unfortunately for many of the men he met, his campaign was successful.’

Judge Christine Hensen granted all victims the right to lifelong anonymity and the option to give evidence from behind a screen, so that they won’t have to face Rowe in court.
