In case you need further persuasion on where to be on Sunday, 3rd December 2017, Lagos state will be shutting down the state with the second edition of Lagos street carnival ever in the state’s history. The Lagos Street is a brainchild of the state government and it promises to be fun galore.
The carnival will be a one-day event with a lot of colour and culture on display. It will take place along the ever-busy Oba-Akran road in Ikeja with an impressive lineup of engaging activities.
The event is to kick-start a series of activities which has been lined-up by Lagos State government to celebrate Christmas and New Year. It will provide a platform for the residents to relax and enjoy themselves in a secured environment.
Performing at the event are: Olamide, Lil Kesh, Yemi Alade, Salawa Abeni, Oritse Femi, DJ Lambo amongst others. And there will be the kiddies corner with various activities like Bouncing Castle, Rodeo Bull, Carroussels etc.
Lagos State Acting Honourable Commissioner for Tourism, Art and Culture, Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola, while briefing newsmen stated that: the event is expected to start from noon to midnight.
According to her: “The Lagos Street Party, which was held last year has metamorphosed into Lagos Street Carnival. It has been rebranded and repackaged to serve a much wider purpose beyond just a party. It being organized to showcase the state potentials for tourism, arts and entertainment at global level.”
The Lagos Street Carnival Hon. Akinsola disclose is largely private sector driven as there are some private organization that share the same vision and are supporting the state in this drive. “The State Government believes that the platform will engender economic development, empowerment of the people and promote tourism.
“This is exemplified by the fact that, beside entertainment and fun-making, the Carnival offers upcoming artists and tradesmen opportunity to exhibit their skills and market their products which fits into the agenda of the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode led administration,” she said.
Corroborating the Honourable statement is the Lagos state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, who says the Lagos Street Carnival draws parallel with international carnivals across the world.
“The Carnival will attract participation of over 700 revellers in colourful costumes of different shades, design and animation in a control procession along the stretch of Oba Akran Road. The carnival will showcase the display of abundant indigenous cultures, food and lifestyle of Lagosians.
“The Lagos Street Carnival is an avenue for propel to have fun and enjoyment just as it is done in other countries of the world,” Ayorinde stated.
Meanwhile, agencies of government that are concerned with ensuring security and free flow of traffic have been mobilized and will be deployed to strategic areas around the venue.
Adequate traffic management arrangement have been put in place to ensure that motorists using Oba Akran Road and adjoining roads do not experience pains as a result of the closure. We have provided alternative routes to motorist.
