Hello Ladies smiley

On this thread, we will be discussing all about human hair extensions - care, maintenance, styling, how to tell real human hair from fake, human hair terminologies, and all things human hair extensions.

This thread is borne out of the fact that many women spend money on human hair but don't know whether what they are getting are quality hairs. Even when they get good quality hair, the hair may not last as long because of lack of maintenance.

Ask any questions you have on human hair extensions and we will do our best to respond to all questions.

Lets dig in.

Understanding hair extension types and quality.

Virgin/raw Hair
This is hair that has not been processed in anyway with chemical or steam; i.e it has not been permed, dyed, bleached or chemically processed.
It is cut from one single hair donor so all the cuticles are intact and are facing the same direction.
To achieve certain curls and.waves, manufacturers process virgin hair with steam (not chemical) after it is collected from the donor.

Once the hair has been processed by the manufacturers, it ceases to be raw hair, but is still considered and termed virgin hair. Raw hair is therefore not as silky as virgin hair that has been processed with steam, it is a little more coarse and only comes in the donors natural wave.

Hair that is bone straight, or has a patterned wave (deep wave, bodywave) or curled is not raw hair (steam processing is used to achieve those look).

Virgin/Raw hair is the highest quality of hair❤

Remy Hair

This hair is cut from one single donor's ponytail so all the cuticles are intact and are facing the same direction. However, the hair has been processed by the donor prior to donation.

All Remy hairs are not created equal as the degree of processing differs from one donor to another.

Non -Remy Human Hair

This is human hair not collected from one single donor. Maybe leftovers from different donors or maybe collected from hairbrushes the cuticles are damaged and do not face the same direction. To remedy this, the manufacturers process the hairs with acid(called acid baths) to remove the cuticles and make the surface smooth and shiny. However, on washing this kind of hair, the acid the hair has been coated with begins to peel off, and after about one or two washes the hair reveals its true nature and begins to look dry, tangle and matt.

There are varying grades of non Remy hair as some manufacturers are better at washing off the cuticles and coating with silicon than others

This is not a good hair grade and is not recommended, but can last for 6 months (conservatively) with the right maintenance.

Synthetic Hair

This is not hair from any human being. However, synthetic hair technology have advanced to such a stage that it looks very much like human hair, but it cannot be curled, straightened, dyed or bleached. It is not silky and will not blend well with your natural hair.

Now you know about the different grade of hairs (hair material). Next class is on hair origins and their significance. Which one is peruvian, cambodian, malaysian, Russian? Do human hairs come from donors in this countries or is it all marketing?

Hello Dolls
.
Apologies for the long absence. Now let's dig in into hair origins.

Is there such a thing as brazilian/peruvian/Spanish/italian hairs/venezuelan/French etc. hairs? ..Truth- it is rare for women from these region to sell their hairs. A few sell to people on a kind of pre- order basis. 98% of all so called hairs in the market are Asian (mainly) hairs processed for the Brazilian/peruvian texture which blends well with Negro hairs.
.
Now, this does not mean that hairs labelled such are bad or not human hairs, No. But it is definitely not from the head of any Brazilian.
.
However, why should you care about that? Your only concern should be that you are getting top quality hair that will last a longtime.

So where are the hairs really from?
.
.Most virgin hairs in the market are from India or China. (These being the only 2 population that can sustain such a huge market).
There are also virgin hairs from other Asian countries like Cambodia, Vietnam, Mongolia, Malaysia, Burma; and some part of Europe like Russia and Ukraine (generally called European hair).
