26 Nigerian Women Buried in Italy: Saraki Reiterates Senate’s Resolve for Justice

The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Friday evening, reiterated the resolve of the Nigerian Senate to ensure that the families and loved ones of the 26 Nigerian girls who died while trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea receive justice.

In a post on his Facebook page and tweets on his @BukolaSaraki handle, the Senate President stated that the Senate will continue to push for a declaration of a State of Emergency on ‘Youth Unemployment.’

He said:

“My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of the 26 Nigerian women and girls who died while trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea.

“They were laid to rest today in Salerno, Italy. May their souls Rest In Peace.

“As we stated in our 9th November, 2017 Resolution:

“1. The Nigerian Senate will not stop until justice is done and a proper investigation is conducted by Italian authorities on the death of the 26 Nigerian women;

“2. We will continue to urge the FG to declare a State of Emergency on youth unemployment, as we collectively work to come up with more proactive measures to engage our young people;

“3. We urge the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NAPTIP, and the Nigerian Immigration Service to work together to devise a comprehensive strategy to combat this menace of illegal migration and human trafficking.”
