The euphoria of the successful hosting of the Ikire Day Celebration hardly subsided when all the indigenes of Ikire, under the aegis of the Ikire Progressive Union (IPU) converged at Ayedaade High School Ikire and celebrated the annual Ikire Day. IPU as the supreme organisation in Ikire with a view to fostering unity and facilitating rapid development of the town. It was rosaceous as the main field was filled by various social associations, whose members and representatives were decked in various fabrics.

Akogun Lere Oyewumi also urged for the continued sustenance of peace in Ikire in the Irewole LGA of the state. Dr Lere Oyewumi made the call at Ikire Day Celebration and launching for community development. Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own. He implored Sons and daughters of Ikire to celebrate Ikire Day 2017, amid renewed efforts to move the town forward from its present state. Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons working together.

Akogun Lere Oyewumi said It is not more bigness that should be our goal. We must attempt, rather to bring people back to the warmth of community, to the worth of individual effort and responsibility. The individuals must work as a community, to better lives and our youth's future. Each of us must rededicate ourselves to serving the common good. We are a community, our individual fates are linked; our futures intertwined; and if we act in that knowledge and in that spirit together, the community will prosper.
