You are just starting up, you are budding, and you can’t stop contemplating on which marketing or branding tool that would work effectively and efficiently, and that would not a take a chunk out of your capital or budget. Do not be too stressed up by this because there is the solution to that contemplation and that it Signage.
I am going to shed light on 5 reasons you start considering signage for your small business, but, first, we must understand what a signage is.

According to the definition of Wikipedia “signage is the design or use of signs and symbols to communicate a message to a specific group, usually for the purpose of marketing or a kind of advocacy”. Signage is usually made or produced in the form of way-finding information like you find in places such as streets or on the inside and outside buildings. Signage varies in form and size based on location and intent, from more expansive banners, billboards, and to the smaller street signs, street name signs, chalkboards and lawn signs. Latest signage may also use digital or electronic displays and could be internal or external signage.

Now that we have understood what a Signage is, we can move on to the title of this article which is 5 Reasons SMEs Needs a Signage to Boost Brand Image. Without much Ado let go there!

1. Profit Maximization

According to economists, profit maximization is the short run or long run process by which a firm determines the price and output level that returns the greatest profit. With signage, you are able to project the short run or long run output without having to do much in realizing its profits as long as you have the signage convey a well-defined information and installed in the right place. Let’s take the recharge card sellers at the bus-stops or marketplaces for an example; they display a 2x4 banner or a small chalkboard communicating all the cards they have in stock.

2. Competition

Using signage as a marketing tool, you are able to rival your competitors not only for a few blocks away but, also up to about 10 miles radius area of where your business is located. Signage is a go-to marketing tool for your small business, no matter what industry you are, being its manufacturing, mining, down to Agriculture and entertainment industries. Because, why, there is always a rival in close by or somewhere within the radius of your business location doing just exactly or more of what you are doing to stand out as a service provider. Shops at the malls and designated markets (e.g. Alaba International market and the Ikeja Computer Village) are a just perfect example of a cluster completion where your signage could work as a fighting bull.

3. Branding and Visual Identification

Incorporating all your brand synonyms like colours, logo, slogan, services, information, etc. With your sign depicting all these elements of information, you are able to create a branding identification with all the visual on your signage. Prominent, eye-catching signage exposes your business to people who over time may become customers and helps you build a strong brand. Like I said, earlier, in No. 2 signage are really good fighting bull and they are long lasting in whichever medium you have created them. Fellows! Start thinking signage now and if you have got one already starts thinking improvement now, a signboard that is damaged or altered may fail in conveying your brand. No matter, much as you promise to live up to rendering or delivering a great service experience to your customers or clients.

4. Offline-Online Connection

Hmm! This is really mouth watering, efficient; because it’s a two-way thing, one communicates with the other. Offline; by just putting all your online information on the website, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and in fact all your elements of web 2.0 on your signage. Organically, you get traffic across your web 2.0. While also, on the other hand, online; in images for your business on your website and across all web 2.0, it may be a good idea to include pictures of your business’s physical location, signage and its environs. So that when people visit, they are already being familiarized with how the business and surroundings look. A lot and more customer are finding your business online, hence, that is only a tip of half the story. Because if you have got an awesome location, you can also appeal to prospects who are walking past your business every day.

5. Virtual Salesman

Signage works 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Unlike advertising and other marketing working tool which usually only run for a limited period of time, your business signage will be up and run visible continuously, no matter what time of day or night it is and this best practised by signage when it's illuminated. Signage gives potential customers continued exposure to your brand. When they first see your signage, potential customers might not exactly be ready to purchase your products or subscribe to your services but long-term exposure, as they walk or drive past your signage every day. Once potential customers like this are ready to buy they are more likely to think about you or recommend you to their friends and colleagues. If you have physical premises for your business, you shouldn’t underestimate the importance of signage. Great signage can help you build your brand, direct customers to your business and expose you to potential new customers.

Wow! Guys’ thanks for reading, I hope I have not bored you with this long epistle, I have to me make it this short and insightful because it’s really a very deep topic to touch on. Although there are other worthy reasons such as Location, Call to Action, Beautification etc.
