United Staes Treasury Department revealed in a statement fresh sanctions targeting individuals and entities with business ties with North Korea which includes a Chinese citizen and Chinese trading companies has been diced out by the United States.
According to Sputnik, a Chinese citizen, 13 entities and 20 vessels were tagged for the new set of sanctions targeting North Korea over its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
"The US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control today sanctioned one individual, 13 entities, and 20 vessels as the United States continues to take action multilaterally and unilaterally to disrupt North Korea’s illicit funding of its unlawful nuclear and ballistic missile programs,"
To evade some of the previous sanctions that was imposed on the pariah state, they have deviced some deceptive shipping pratices including ship-to-ship transfers, an act which is against the UN security Council Resolution 2375.
This new sanction targets are companies whose trade volume with North Korea is worth hundreds of millions of dollars and also transport and shipping companies who is supplying North Korea with the necessary tools and means to evade earlier sanctions.
According to the Treasury's office of Foreign Assets Control, Chinese citizen Sun Sindong and his company, Dandong Dongyuan Industrial Co. was affected by the sanctions for allegedly exporting over $28 million worth of goods to North Korea in recent years, including components for nuclear reactors and also involved with front companies behind North Korea's development of weapons of mass destruction.
Other companies includes; Dandong Kehua Economy & Trade Co., Dandong Xianghe Trading Co., Ltd., and Dandong Hongda Trade Co. Ltd. This companies are alleged to have exported goods worth over $650 million to North Korea.
Shipping and Transport companies which includes; Korea Rungrado Shipping Company, Korea Rungrado Ryongak Trading, Yusong Shipping Company, Dawn Marine Management Co. Ltd, Korea Daebong Shipping Company and Korea Kumbyol Trading Company and also their vessels were not spared by the sanctions.
