The 35-year-old has confirmed his playing days are over, prompting a great praise on social media from fans

Yakubu Aiyegbeni has retired from football and tributes have been pouring in for Nigeria’s third all-time leading goalscorer.

The former Portsmouth and Everton star boasts of 21 goals from 57 international games for Nigeria and featured in the 2010 Fifa World Cup – where he notably missed an open goal from three metres against South Korea.
