Group wants EFCC to probe Adamawa LGs chairmen over frivolous grants A group, Adamawa Youths Vanguard has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC ) to as a matter of urgency probe twenty one local government chairmen in the state over alleged of spending councils money to process frivolous grants from an intervention agency, Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs ) The call was contained in a petition titled "Adamawa council chairmen hide under intervention agency to perpetrate frauds" written by the group state Cordinator, Jubril Dahallatu Yola to the anti grant agency, copies of which were made available to the newsmen in Abuja The group berated the councils chairmen under the leadership of Barrister Aliyu Wakili Boya led executives of Association of Local Government of Nigeria ( ALGON ) in the state of conniving with a 'staff' of SDGs one 'Dr' Victor Musa to perpetrate frauds The petition reads in part "The twenty one council chairmen in Adamawa under the auspices of ALGON have designed a scam already paving way for frauds in the local government councils of the state " "The ALGON chairman in the state, Barrister Aliyu Wakili Boya led executives introduced a grants related scheme to some local government councils through a prominent intervention agency otherwise called Sustainable Development Goals" "At the initial stage, nine local government were pencilled down to benefit from the first phase of the project/ scheme which according to some councils' staff each local government will benefit N200M with one ambulance van each while the remaining twelve councils were slated for the second phase of the scheme" "The official of the agency, stormed the council areas without official letter from thier office on 6th of October this year for the purported projects inspection and the nine council chairmen spent well over N5m each for the visit. The leader of the kangaroo team was one Musa Victor who promised that within two weeks the money and the vehicles will be ready for onward delivery to the nine council areas . "As we expecting the money and the vans to be delivered the team came again to inspect the sites of the purported projects in eight local government councils and carried out inspection in the remaining twelve councils and again over N5m was also paid by each of council chairmen to host and to facilitate the scam called project" "Sir, since, the chairmen have hidden under this project to siphon money from council accounts and they have gone to Abuja over three occasions now to pursue the so called project and up till the time we decided to write this petition , nothing is being forthcoming "Our findings as concerned citizens of this State however ,showed that there is nothing of such in SDGS in Abuja office, everything is a scam, there is no record that the state is having any application related to the purported projects with the agency. And our chairmen have been spending our hard-earning and the tax payers money on frivolous projects with careless abandon " "We therefore, urge you to send your operatives down to investigate the scam, and also the commission should painstakingly beam its search-light on the financial accounts of all the twenty one local government councils of the state, we are sure that many financial impropriety perpetrated by the present leadership of the councils will be uncovered . |
