As you can see in the photo below, the inside of the plane consists of two rows of wicker chairs. Yep, you read that correctly…wicker chairs. And while it seems like the builder skimped on the seating arrangments they seemed to have no issues with spicing up the windows with some fancy curtains. Evidently, the priorities were a tad different back then.

And while it’s hard to tell from the angle the photo was taken, it doesn’t look like there were any seatbelts attached to those not-so-sturdy seats.

It kind of looks like the inside of an RV and we can guess that it would most certainly not survive if it were in a crash.

Makes you really appreciate the state-of-the-art aircraft we have today, right?

But, like every new invention, you have to start somewhere so maybe, just maybe this was impressive back in the day and people didn’t worry about the lack of safety all that much because they didn’t know any better. Over the years, aircraft engineers and builders have learned what works best and what definitely doesn’t work. We are guessing the wicker chairs were one of the things that they discovered didn’t hold up over time or with a little bit of turbulence.

Commenters had a field day with this photo and shared their thoughts and opinions on the image that was taken so long ago…

Some made good points about the use of light weight chairs…

“It’s a wooden plane, I’m sure, nothing would survive in a crash.Wooden chairs are probably used to keep the weight down.”

“Wicker furniture is very light. Early airplanes were horribly underpowered by modern standards, so it was very important to save as much weight as possible for things like fuel, passengers, and cargo. Thus the fuselage was made of doped fabric instead of metal, and the interior furniture was all made of wickerwork and netting.”

Believe it or not, wicker was considered modern and high tech in this time period. Now, well…it’s almost only used as porch furniture. How times have changed.

Others noticed the scary emergency sign toward the front of the plane…

“Notice the “emergency exit” sign that says “ripping panel, pull ring” Basically to get out of the plane you rip a hole in the side by pulling on a big can ring.”

And some learned to appreciate today’s modern aircraft a little more…

“What I find incredible is that these comparatively ‘light’ materials add up to like 100,000 lbs for a Boeing 737 and the plane is so powerful and strong it can hold another 55000 lbs for takeoff. Amazing what modern day aircraft are capable of. And a 737 is just a medium sized aircraft.”

If this image does anything, it should give viewers some appreciation for how far we’ve come and how much work it took to get here. It took a lot of trial and error to go from wicker chairs to today’s high tech seats.

As at 1930 Oyibo man already decided to risk flying...while our grand fathers were busy in the bush and charms. Just like today, the same Oyibo man already decided to go on electric rides and we are still finding it difficult to conduct ordinary free and fair election, killing anyone who tries to seperate from mediocrity. By the year 2100, our grand children will regret ever having mediocre like us that is, those who escaped the useless country. We only have stupid leaders whose interest is to remain in power just to be worshiped. One day MOAB will do justise here.
