I drive a 1998 model honda accord (babyboy), and i think i need to change the all the tyres, the recommended type tyres for the car is 195/65 but i am hoping to change to 205/65 cos of the bad roads and potholes in Lagos, does this have any disadvantage, pls i would like to be adviced as i wont want to make any mistakes. Thanks

You should be fine. The new tire size is just slightly wider and should look nicer too. Carry Go.

You can throw in some drug-dealer alloy rims too - makes it look wild

Just to also add that since the weight of the 205 is more there will be a slightly more fuel consumption of your vehicle. Many people dont know that. The fuel consumption is considrable more if you increase the diameter of your rim.
Take care

Don't exceed manyufacturer's recommendation.
Check the driver's side door pillar (where the VIN is pasted) or the owner's manual.
Also note that low tyre pressure leads to more fuel consumption.
Maintain about 10psi less than the max tyre pressure stated for longer lasting tyres.

Also ensure that dynamic balancing and alignment are done, and not manually (especiall for alloy wheels)
They could lead to quick wear on tyres and complete suspension system (shocks, tyroids, bushings and balancers)

Changing from 195/65 to 205/65 is 10mm(1cm) increment in width of your tyres . Take a ruler and see how large a 1cm increment is. You will then advice yourself.

You will bump on obstacles(stones, pot holes etc) that are 205mm apart with your 205/65, while a 195/65 will not.
A 195/65 will bump into pot holes that are wider than 195mm, while a 205mm may not ( assuming the hole is less than 205mm and the surface flat: which may not be possible in Lagos).

Your car only looks kool on 205/65. The potholes are just there, You can't avoid them

Watch it very well as u will have some issues with your shock absorber most especially the back ones if they are weak.

Ur guide will eventually rub on your tyres if your shock absorbers are weak.

I have the same issues with my Camry after changing to 205/65, looks wonderful on my car but i was forced to changed my shocks to save the new tyres from getting damaged as a result of it rubbing on the guide.

That is not really true. Your absorbers were bad and the tires rubbing has nothing to do with the size of the tires. The reason is that goin from a 195/65 series to 205/65 will only change the width of your tires. The height is still the same which is the "65" series. So it can't rub cos of width. The width is not that much wider anyway.

A "205/70" or a "205/75" will be taller tires, which will rub. They arfe for pickups like Hilux anyway so they might not fit. While a "206/60" or "205/55" will lower the car cos you changes from the original "65" series to "55"

Your car was rubbing for different reason and probably too much load or passenger and weak shocks.

the width was exactly the reason for it rubbing on the tyres, confirmed by series of tyre changes

its not too wide to rub. i have seen that size on camrys b4 with no issue. Since the shocks has to do with height and clearance the width doesn't come into play at all.
