As Nigerians await the possible emergence of a President of Igbo extraction in 2023, we continue our profiling of possible candidates for the post.

Remember the last time we spotlighted Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, former Governor of Abia State. Today, the spotlight falls on Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Executive Governor of Imo State.

Rochas Okorocha

Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha, a native of Ogboko, Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State, was born on 22 September 1962.

Rochas Okorocha had his secondary education at Juladaco High School, Jos, between the years 1976 and 1981. After his secondary education, Rochas Okorocha went to do Diploma in Public Administration in University of Jos.

Rochas Okorocha who has drive for self-employment, floated businesses including Rochas Group of Companies Limited.

Rochas Okorocha joined politics in 1999, and contested for the position of governor in Imo state, but was unsuccessful. However, in the year 2011, Rochas Okorocha re-contested for the same position and came out successful under the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance(APGA).

Rochas Okorocha however defected to the All Progressive Congress(APC) and recontested for the Governorship under the platform of the APC and won under a very tight race in 2015.

Owelle Rochas Okorocha established the Rochas Foundation College system, a FREE comprehensive secondary educational institution that offers free tuition, boarding, feeding, transportation and medical care to over
three thousand (3,000) Nigerian children from less-privileged families annually.

POLITICAL PROFILE:

• Executive Governor, Imo State of Nigeria (AllProgressives Congress- APC, formerlly of All Peoples Grand Alliance – APGA)

• Founding Member, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
• Former National Chairman of Youth Mobilization, PDP – bridge between the old and young.
• Former Presidential Candidate – 2007 PDP primaries, emerged runner-up to Late President Yar’Adua
• Former Presidential Candidate, All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) – 2003
• Former Governorship Candidate, Imo State Governorship Election – 1999
• Former Special Adviser to the President on Interparty Relations
• Former Law Maker
• Former Member, Federal Character Commission
• Former Chairman, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA)
• Former, Pro-chancellor
• Patron, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON)

He is a holder of numerous titles from communities and associations within and outside the country in appreciation of his service to humanity. He was conferred with the traditional titles of “Owelle Ndi Igbo” and “Dan Jekan Sokoto” in a unique and unprecedented ceremony by the body of traditional rulers of the Southeast and the North led by the Chairman of the Southeast Forum of Traditional Rulers, Eze (Dr.) Ezo Ukandu, JP and the Late Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido (CFR). He is also the Omorodun of Yoruba land; the Okala of Ehie; the Talban Gwagwalada and Uban Talakawa.

The important thing is for Igbos to be prepared to sieze the opportunity, because 2023 is the ordained year of Igbo Presidency.

As it is now, they took the President, VP, Senate President, Speaker and even want to strip us of DSP.
