Nobody really knew anything about Okiemute Ighorodje until she won the ninth edition of the MTN Project fame. Since then, most people have been waiting patiently to see the young lady join the list of hit makers .

The expectations most Nigerians have of reality show winners are that they would ‘blow’ and become instant hit makers immediately after the competition ends. Typical examples of those who shot to limelight after coming out tops in a reality show include Iyanya, Timi Dakolo and Yemi Alade.

However, in a brief chat with Saturday Beats, Okiemute noted that she was not under pressure to become well known. She said, “I am not under any pressure to ‘blow’; definitely, I know that there are fans who would expect me to do certain things. The main thing is that you have to know what you want. There are people that would put you under pressure to do something and at the end, it flops. At the end of the day, they would be the first to lay blame.

“I always tell people, you cannot stop a star that has been shinning. No matter how much you try, the star would still shine. I just really want to make good music and perform. I love performing and I am always happy when I mount the stage. I always want to do music that I can relate to and that people can enjoy as well.”

Speaking of her love life, the singer said that anyone who is interested in her can ‘apply’.

“I am currently in a relationship with my music, fans, and management. I would not want to give details of my relationship but the fact is that so far, I am not married but single. However, that you submitted your CV for a job does not guarantee that you would get the job. Even if you are called for an interview, it still does not mean you would get the job,” she said.
