Atiku’s Group Signifies A Return To Pdp! by wales(m): 7:28am On Mar 31, 2010
Political associates of former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, Tuesday inaugurated three committees to study all opportunities open to the group ahead of future polls, including a possible return to Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

The group, which held a meeting with Mr. Abubakar in Abuja Monday night, also decided to hold further consultations with their teeming supporters nationwide on the political future of the group. The meeting was attended by over 50 political associates of the former vice president.

A statement issued at the end of the meeting and signed by the media aide to Mr. Abubakar, Garba Shehu, said the former vice president briefed “those present about the journey so far with the Mega Party Summit Movement, MSM; the National Democratic Movement, NDM; the Action Congress (AC), and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. He also spoke about his efforts to form a mega opposition party with like minds to strengthen Nigeria’s young democracy.”

Mr. Atiku also reportedly expressed his dissatisfaction “that efforts to set up a strong opposition party had not succeeded as a result of serial acts of betrayal.” Mr. Shehu however, said although the meeting has not ratified the option of a possible return to the PDP, “it is still an option as the committees’ decision might be final.” Responding on why the likes of Bola Tinubu and Bisi Akande, who are also leaders of Mr. Abubakar’s present party, Action Congress, were not present at the meeting, Mr. Shehu explained that “this is just the gathering of those that are close to him. If you notice, this is not even the PDM gathering. So, he only brought his associates around for this.”

Mr. Shehu said the discussion does not mean that Mr. Abubakar is no longer a part of the Mega Party plan and confirmed that his boss will be part of the Mega party meeting that will hold in Abuja, Wednesday. One of the participants at the meeting, Saleh Shehu said the plan of the group was not “a plan to decamp or join PDP but to return to the party,” if agreed on by members of the group.

Examine all choices

The agenda of the meeting, according to Mr. Shehu, was an examination of “the reasons that led to the parting of ways between a majority of the members and the Peoples Democratic Party, such as their exclusion from its re-registration exercises; the third term plot of former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, and the persecution of the vice president, Atiku Abubakar, and the fact that a great deal of change has occurred within the party.”

The gathering however, resolved that the committees would carry out robust consultations with the supporters and that “one of the committees is particularly charged with assessing the political situation in each state of the federation so as to be able to take into account the peculiar interests and the well-being of leaders and followers in taking a final decision when and where to go and the modalities for any such movement.”

This is somebody who feels Nigerians love him so much. More and more people have become aware of how much of a rogue he is. He can never become the presidential candidate of PDP.

I am also very happy he has left AC. He was already tarnishing the image of AC. He has stolen so much money right down from his days in customs to his time as VP. He is very corrupt.

Oh my God , what is wrong with all these politicians , are they the only people in this country, am not surprise if babagida or whatever he call himself could be bold enough to say he has forgotten something in aso-rock, therefore he is comingback in 2011, these are the set of people that rule this country right from the time of our independent , and if they are getting old , they will replace themselves with their children, they were just recycling the table of power of this country, GOD WILL SURELY PUNISH THEM AND THEIR GENERATIONS (AMEN)

Atiku, is really a "legend in his own mind" PDP "won" elections in his territory without him, so what negotiating stake does he have to make the party want him?
Re: Atiku’s Group Signifies A Return To Pdp! by solokay(m): 8:12am On Apr 01, 2010
Absolutely no political ideology whatsoever, just jumping from one party to the other looking for opportunity to get back to power and continue to steal.

If this new is geniue then I can see Atiku do not know what he really want. It seems he is a complete confused man if he decided to return to PDP, beside what actually does Atiku wanted from just becoming president at all cost? This is what is bafflelling so many people is it because he love Nigeria that much? Which I know it is not true or what is his mission? He just want to be relevant at all cost this is unbelievable.

Atiku's return to PDP should be deeply examined. Dont forget he is a protege of the late Shehu Musa Yaradua, and led the PDM (the Yaradua's political machine's party) that eventually formed the PDP and practically drew OBJ out of oblivion. In the same scenario, we also have Shehu Musa Yaradua's son in the Federal cabinet. And Umaru Musa Yaradua is still President, albeit an inactive one. The only part of the Yaradua clan that is presently losing out is Turai's crew of usurpers, and they were never a part of the original strategy anyway. It seems the true Yaradua political machine is slowly consolidating. Very interesting. I hope GJ is not boxing himself in a corner. It will also be interesting to study el-Rufai's reaction to his former master's return to party relevance. Atiku exhumed el-Rufai from his bleak Quantity Surveyor existence and made him a political force only for the latter to turn and rub salt in his face because OBJ promised him Presidency.
