Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD on Saturday 9th Dec signed an agreement to open a factory near the Moroccan city of Tangiers to build battery-powered vehicles.

BYD will become the third car manufacturer, after Renault and Peugeot of French, to construct cars in the North African state.

The memorandum of understanding was signed at the royal palace in the coastal city of Casablanca in the presence of King Mohammed VI and BYD's chairman, Wang Chuanfu, whose company is backed by US investor Warren Buffett through Berkshire Hathaway.

The factory in the new Mohammed VI Tangier Tech City, which is part of a project between China and Morocco, is to produce electric cars, buses and trucks at a 50-hectare site, where it expects to employ 2,500 people.

Morocco also aims to add a fourth major automaker plant before the end of 2021 and to have capacity to produce one million vehicles a year by 2025.At that level,Morocco would be ranked among the top 15 vehicle-producing nations in the world.

As for BYD’s CEO, he hopes to benefit from Morocco’s location as a gateway to Europe and the African market, adding that the first phase would produce passenger vehicles.

I think the federal government need to reposition its economy in order to feed the hungry Nigerians, enhance the standard living of Nigerian citizens by giving employment to them, then forget any idea of BYD electric, we fvckin don't need them.

1. China is also not an English-speaking country and has been spending a lot of money in training the students from many countries (including Morocco) to speak Chinese.

2. Nigeria is not the giant of Africa. Not in 2017.

3. Investors are not blind to the comboluciousness in Nigeria undecided

Our government is a bunch of scum.
Nigeria should have been a better destination for such massive project with regards to her labor, population.

Yet the so called "Giant of Africa" looks on as opportunities pass her by due to economic and political irregularities.

Shame on Buhari and his team of morons.

Because we presently have an environment that is extremely hostile to both local and foreign investors (poor infrastructure, no power, excess taxation, poor security, etc)
