Buhari hale and hearty to contest in 2019

The President should go for a second term because he is hale and hearty to do so. He has started a good job which is acknowledged within the country and globally. It is in order for him to go for a second term in office so that he can conclude the good job he started. Everybody knows that this man is not out to accumulate wealth but to put Nigeria in its appropriate place in the world. This man is out to see that Nigeria is great again. He has been doing everything within his power to achieve this. He realises that no country can be great with corruption. So, he is fighting it with zeal. He is also tackling insurgence and banditry. He knows that Nigeria needs infrastructural development and he is working on that. Look at the Mambilla power project that was abandoned, he has resuscitated it. There are other projects like that being embarked upon by his government, to ensure that Nigerian youths are not jobless again. So, I strongly support the call for his second term in office. At the end of his second term in 2023, he would have laid a very solid foundation for anyone that will succeed him. God, in his own wisdom, made President Muhammadu Buhari to eventually emerge Nigeria’s president. I believe President Buhari will succeed while his detractors will fail.

With my experience in politics and with my age, I am saying this with all seriousness; I have not seen anybody among the present crop of politicians who has good intentions like President Buhari. Many of them have amassed wealth meant to take care of their people. In the current political class, President Buhari stands out. I will rather encourage him to go for a second term so that there will be sanity in our political system.—Buhari’s childhood friend, Senator Aba Alli, 75

Buhari looks good for a second term

As a matter of fact, age has nothing or very little to do with performance. There are people who are more than 75 years old that can perform optimally if they are mentally alright. I almost lost confidence in Buhari coming back when he was ill and flown abroad for treatment. But he looks a different person since he came back. There are people who are less than 70 years old and cannot even express themselves in public, let alone perform the task of a leader. It is not all about one’s age; there are other factors and we need to consider that.—Deacon David Affe, 75

Buhari won’t be strong enough to lead Nigeria in 2019

President Muhammadu Buhari is trying his best to fight corruption, fix the economy and address the issue of insecurity in the country. But I don’t think he should contest again in 2019 because he would be 77 years old then. And at that age, he may not have the strength to lead the country. He has tried his best to deliver on his electoral promises, and as such, he should leave the leadership of the country for younger ones who have the capacity and the modern knowledge on how to make things happen.

Buhari even admitted shortly after he was elected as the president that he wished he were younger so that he would have the strength to lead the nation.

Many countries of the world are currently electing younger people into positions of leadership like what we have in France, where the country’s president is less than 40 years old. So, I will suggest that after the end of his first term in office, Buhari should go back home and rest.—Retired teacher, Mrs. Naomi George-Odon, 75
