Facebook is on a serious cleansing adventure as they are now determined to fight against some dubious and tricky activities on the platform. Just in my recent post, I wrote about how Facebook is planning to start demoting pages that engages in click baiting. Now, Mark Zuckerberg is introducing a facial recognition feature that will notify you once someone else uses your profile to impersonate you.
This new facial recognition features allow you to better manage your identity on the social network. The technology gives you the ability to issue notifications whenever you show up in someone else's photo.
HOW IT WORKS
Facebook will notify you once you appear in another person's profile photo even if he or she didn't tag you.
According to Facebook, You’re in control of your image on Facebook and can make choices such as whether to tag yourself, leave yourself untagged, or reach out to the person who posted the photo if you have concerns about it.
The greatest part of this is that you will also be notified if someone is trying to impersonate you on Facebook by using your photo as their profile image.
Meanwhile, it's important to note that this feature is optional and it's totally under your control. This means, you can turn it on/off. If your tag suggestions setting is currently set to “none,” then your default face recognition setting will be set to “off” and will remain that way until you decide to change it.
Also, visually impaired people on Facebook are not left out as Facebook also introducing a feature that will allow them to identify those who appear on photos on news feed even if they aren’t tagged.
I think Facebook is becoming even more technical and trying to sanitize the social media platform which before now, seemed to be crowded with impersonators and scammers.
