Osune labor unions have announced it would commence an indefinite strike starting from Wednesday, December 27, to emphasize its demand for full payment of workers salaries in the state.

In a declaration of strike letter, the union called on its members to stay at home until otherwise directed by labor leaders.

The letter was signed by the Osun state chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Mr. Jacob Adekomi; State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (SJPSNC) chairman, Mr. Bayo Adejumo; Trade Union Congress (TUC) Chairman, Bowale Adekola, and their respective secretaries.

Gov. Rauf Aregbesola
“Consequent upon the refusal of the government of Osun state to accede to the demands of workers and pensioners as contained in our letter of Thursday 5th December 2017, the workers of Osun state will be preceding on an indefinite strike action by 27th December.

“We salute the uncommon support we enjoy from the entire workforce of Osun State and we trust that the unfailing God will see us through this unpleasant time.

"On this note, we enjoin all workers in Osun state to stay at home until otherwise directed by the Labor leaders” the letter read.

Also, the chairman while speaking at a press conference in the state said the government has no reason to further pay modulated salaries to all categories of workers just as the union will no longer accept the embargo placed on the promotion of workers since 2012.

He said; “With the 3rd Paris fund tranche, (FAAC) allocation and IGR including the local government allocation for October and November, it is evident that the state government can pay workers and pensioners alike their full salary and pensions, so why is this government refusing to do so?” he said.

“The workers will no longer accept this and that is why we are declaring this strike, so from the 27th, after the Christmas holidays, we expect our members to stay off work until the government is ready to do the needful.”
