Buhari is seriously at the cross road now on what to do.

If he finally deregulates the downstream sector, all of hailers will migrate to wailers.

If he continues with this secret subsidies, he will eat his vomit and a lot of people will come for him.

If he increases the pump price, that's the end of his govt because a lot of hailers will migrate to wailers.

In short, I pity Buhari. He caused his problems by over promises and over hyping by his followers, which I was.

The silly guy should have deregulated when crude oil was $30. We would have got used to the weekly price movement by now. And there would have been time for people to get it out of their system before the next elections. Now the guy is between a rock and a hard place. If he tries it now, the backlash will play into the hands of the PDP, who have suddenly found their voice.

Poor strategy from largely illiterate people in government.

Oil prices have not changed significantly in the last few weeks.

Yet oil subsidy has changed dangerously in just a few days.

Election monies are being accumulated. God is watching us all in 3D Extraplex.

Whoever you vote....he or she is going to meet the import price of fuel at N171....and he or she is going to have a choice

1.Continue with N145 or go to N87 and waste millions on subsidy....

2.Or deregulate...yes people will pay N200 and above, but eventually investment and competition will bring prices down.

But you people want cheap fuel....even at the expense of the jobs of nigerians in the petrol sector.

GEJ tried...you people protested....so we went back to a bad policy to keep people like you happy. Now...oil is at $65...we need it at $123 to afford your subsidy

Here is why we should deregulate. The diagram below was made in 2015...

Now this is someone who obviously really went to school and understands economics. Not the majority of half baked people who comment up and down but have no clue about how things work.

Like I always say, you can't cheat the simple laws of economics.

Contracts for supply of pms from refineries are entered into in advance. You don't just take a ship to a refinery and say you want to buy petrol today This is not buying indomie from the aboki across the street!!!

So if takes some time for the swings in crude prices to reflect in the prices if petroleum products we see in Nigeria.

If you notice, there was some lag between crude prices going back up to when diesel prices started going back up here from N160 a few months ago to N200 now.

All this talk of how much subsidy fg is paying per day is all in a bid to increase pump price after yuletide. Well Nigerians should brace up for fuel price increase next year and forget about their lies.

I'm surprised to hear that "there is anything like fuel subsidy at all"

APC told us that fuel subsidy is a scam, that there is nothing like it. What has changed?

True, but the guy contested 3 times. Abi na 4. Didn't he have any economic strategy he wanted to come and implement. The guy fall hand no be small. Totally clueless on what he was focused on achieving in government. The mumu thought govt was by fiat and order.

That was propaganda to win an election. Same way we all exaggerate at interviews to get the job. Let's stop being fixated on that.

APC , like PDP is made up of politicians...and politicians are not good economists., nor do they listen to good economists.

When APC made that comment, there was some truth in it...that was the time of the subsidy scam things...guys collecting subsidy for fuel not imported.

Then APC got into power...and suddenly realized that while subsidy was scam filled....the alternative....removing the subsidy completely...would lead to price rises as high as N200 and above...meaning lost votes.

So they quietly kept the subsidy by continuing with price setting...forcing NNPC to essentially become our sole importer and subsidizer of fuel...and essentially forcing marketers to sell at a loss.

And should PDP come back, that is the same issue they are going to face.

The solution is deregulation. But Buhari saying he is going to deregulate back in 2016...is like him saying he does not want to come back in 2019.

You mean your new employer would keep you in his payroll if after bloating your experience, you can't deliver the simplest task due to lack of skills as you assured you possess?

I'm struggling to understand.

All these advantages you have said is definitely on the long term. You and I know food prices, cost of living, transportation will definitely move up in event of a total deregulation.

2.with the way bodies like nupeng, ipman and pengassan hold the country to ransome in the event of strike I Don, t think market forces will be able to bring the price down as it will still be regulated by this associassions. U and I know Nigerians.

3.The current problem is as a result of high exchange rate and only if this can be tackled price of refined petrol will be on the high side. Building refineries or attracting fdi into the country is a long term solution.

4.we need to reduce our dependence on petrol by introducing a good transport system, making our rail transportation effective, building good mono rail transport system in cities. These are infrastructural development we expected this government to take loan and embark on.

It means no brain to give appropriate solution to the myriads of problems in the land ..this is terrible..when we thought an educated person would give us result,he rather worsened our situation, now a General came on board only to increase fuel price and yet telling story for his ineptitude ..this is really sickening

Stop putting your life frustrations on Buhari, he’s not the reason for it

Its the amount of money government pays to keep a price less and more affordable for its citizens... example, fuel is suppose to be at 185.7 as speculated above but you buy at 145 per little
Meaning goverment pays 40 naira already as subsidy

Meanwhile, can’t wait till Dangote Refinery kicks up as speculated , then I can imagine what the problem of Nigeria is if these issues persist
And we forgot subsidy was meant to be removed? do you think this is sustainable in 6 months time at this rate? citing low Oil cost as well?
What this Fg is failing to tell us is the true cost of Landing PMS @ N187 , from what country? we can do our own checks

I just hope this Scarcity is not stage manager to clean out the treasury for the coming elections. Mr. President once said he doesn't know what subsidy is ... He has refused to pay the backlog he inherited and accumulated at the start of his regime hence the mass sack in the down stream ... This amount is close to 800b naira .....

Now we are heading about 29b expense in just two weeks ...We now hear about a billion dollar for insurgency they told us had been defeated ....I just hope we are not being cleaned out for election purposes.

IamaNigerianGuy:

Best qoute of 2017!

Fuel is related to food and agricultural production, the increase of agricultural products increases transportation and that means more fuel expenditure. It costs fuel suppliers more money to process fuel and deliver it which is used by agriculture vehicles like tractors, loading vehicles, and trucks to deliver food to cities as most food is grown in rural areas. Fuel suppliers don't eat this cost but transfer in to food marketers whom in turn transfer this to the consumers in the form of higher food prices. Price is always dictated by demands, so that the greater the demand the greater the costs of a product. This is simple economics and there are plenty of online information available about fuel and food being tied together.

Solutions:

1. Grow some food closer to cities by creating large greenhouses, relocate factories that convert Cassava into bread closer to the city to always keep a steady fresh supply.

2. Use more horse drawn wagons to decrease the amount of fuel used by loading trucks and tractors. Also use horses in delivering loads that are routed to close by locations.

3. Aim for reducing prices upon all products and services not just one. Create discounts programs for food and other products and services thereby increasing more shopping and grow more profits for businesses in increments.

These are some solutions, APC doesn't need to wage a war of politics with fuel suppliers but instead find ways around the equation of price and demand. APC must do what other parties have not done before, they must become innovative and set a new pace for Nigeria. APC has the potential to stay in office for another 4 years and elect more party members if APC remembers it has an obligation to their constituents to provide change and not excuses.
