He argued that the presidential system of government have a disconnect with the people, which makes the system too expensive and cumbersome. The Deputy President of the Senate, Chief Ike Ekweremadu has made a strong case for parliamentary system of government in the country. Senator Ekweremadu spoke during a parliamentary session of the Enugu West People’s Assembly which took place in Udi Local Government Headquarters of Enugu State. At the session, opportunities were given to the people in the grassroots to interact and hold the leadership of the Senatorial District accountable. Ekweremadu explained that the Enugu West Parliamentary session was an example of democracy in action which enabled everyone to air his or her opinions, ask questions and demand answers. He said “you can see that all your representatives are here from the Senate to the house of Assembly, including the Chairman of Local Government Areas and Councilors, taking questions and giving answers. Warning to Men, These 3 Foods is Slowly Killing Your Erection “This is democracy in action. I can assure you that this is how democracy is practiced for the benefit of the people. “Our parliament which is the Enugu West People’s Assembly is the best in the world because every body who is supposed to be here is in attendance and actively involved in process. It is face to face. The people and their representatives”. The Deputy President of the Senate also argued that the parliamentary system of government will not only make it faster and easier to pass legislation but will help institute the will of the people, which will clearly quicken legislative action. He maintained that the parliamentary system of government “will engender more robust debates which always brings out the best in a democracy” and assured the people that all their requests will be captured in both the Federal, State and Local Government budgets. Ideal for Men and Women: New discovery (miracle device) that helps "CURES OVER 50 AILMENTS AND DISEASES" without taking drugs He used the opportunity to announce the state government’s intention to establish two industrial Parks in the State- one at the 9th mile area and the other at Emene, arguing that it will help boost youth empowerment. Chief Ekwermadu encouraged the youths to avail themselves of the opportunities offered by the European Vocational School, that was facilitated by him to learn skills that will help empower them in no small ways, advising other well meaning Nigerians to sponsor the youths to the school. Most legislators and government officials in attendance took questions from the people, including Hon Toby Okechukwu, member representing Aninri/ Awgu/Orji – River Federal Constituency, Hon. Dennis Amadi, Representing Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, Traditional Rulers, Constituents among others. High point of the parliamentary session was the demand that Enugu Electricity Distribution Company EEDC should as a matter of urgency provide meters to electricity consumers in the state. http://dailypost.ng/2017/12/28/nigeria-needs-parliamentary-system-ekweremadu/ fp: lalasticlala, mynd44

With the likes of Saraki, Dino melaye vested with much power as the parliamentarians and the prime minister as a mere ceremonial head, the country will just end up in the hands of armed robbers.

The painful aspect of the whole thing is that these guys know the truth and even say it but they would never bring about the needed change or be agents of change because they are direct beneficiaries of the failing system.

Everyone is talking but no action. Until our leaders start to work the talk we aren't going anywhere.

Nigeria does not need any parliamentary system of government.

What Nigeria needs is a good electoral system.

Parliamentary system works well where people cherish the principles of consensus building and give and take.

Nigeria is too disorderly for such a system.

Nigerians are cannot trust each other.

There is no region that can survive this system.

Imagine for a second if Nigeria were Germany where the Chancellor is still struggling to form her government after several months of election. (Note - this is not the same as Buhari taking eternity to appoint ordinary ministers.)

Italy and Japan were practically changing prime ministers every 1 or 2 years in the recent past.

Imagine the chaos and the level of instability that would have caused the Nigeria's economy.

And it is not that Nigeria has not practiced it before.

Parliamentary system was what our founding fathers started with in the 1960s shortly after Independence.

It failed woefully.

The military simply took advantage of lack of cohesion to stage their coup d'etat which led to us where we are now.

Nigerian politicians are even more unruly now than they were in those days.

The country itself is just too fragmented now, more than at any time in our history.

How would the APC have functioned in a parliamentary system with their disjointed structure where everyone is the lord?

You can argue for eternity about the cost of running a presidential system, it won't change anything. It is not that the parliamentary system too would be entirely free of costs.

Moreover, it is doubtful if there are verifiable scientific evidence (published researches/studies) supporting the assertion.

Much of the argument on cost reductions have been purely conjectures at best and wishful thinking at worst.

Nigeria needs strong electoral system and this presidential system would just be fine.

This is the 18th straight year we have been on it.

One of the main problems right now is that the traditional watchdogs - the civil society and the media - are not effective with holding Buhari to account on many fronts.

They seem to be struggling with playing their role in the age of new media or they have been bought or cowed into submission.

The Nigeria's media and the intelligentsia were most feared and indeed respected across the world.

Until they fell into Buhari and his government's spell by helping to dish out lies and demonic propaganda - becoming accomplices in disparaging people's characters.
