you all condemning them are fools and hypocrites. So, it is okay for their leaders to steal billions of dollars while ye all hail and defend them online and offline Ye all are pathetic I swear

They are learning from their leaders which is not bad if you ask me cool cool

So I guess you are doing the same thing in your community, right? And I believe you would not have any problem stealing electricity cables and vandalizing the power transformers in your community to sell the parts, right?

Here is what really happened.
THE AKAGIDIGBO - UMOMI ISSUES AND THE ONGOING RECONSTRUCTION OF THE IDAH - UMOMI ROAD Yesterday, I made a post with pictorial evidence of how some villagers were packing the granites from the ongoing reconstruction of the Idah - Umomi road. I was suprised when I saw the strange happening involving some women, children and few adults men and women scampering for the granites specifically between Akagidigbo - Umomi axis of the road. When I stopped to make inquiries, they started running away except a young man that initially waited but on coming closer, he took off like others. It was while coming closer that I took the pictures using zoom effects. The immediate person that I contacted after the villagers were afraid to speak with me was Usman Ochidi who is the SA on Project Monitoring to the State Government. I promptly put a call and informed him of the development. I did not get feedback from him..... before I made the post yesterday (a day after) to draw the attention of the relevant authorities to that development. Just this afternoon, I received numerous calls from friends of how my pure intention was politically misrepresented for selfish and cheap blackmail by one Usman Okai Austin. I also received call from Usman Ochidi, the said SA Project Monitoring whom I had earlier contacted. The feedback from Hon. Usman this afternoon necessitated this post. He told me how he made further inquiries with the relevant authorities since he had earlier told me that he does not know why and on whose authorities the villagers were packing the granites. Mr Ochidi informed me that, just as he told me earlier that he was not aware of the development, my call also prompted him to contact the Chairman of the Company who also told him earlier that he was not aware of the development. Hon. Usman added that he also made further calls to the Administrator of Ofu LGA that day for him to investigate the reported case but the call was neither answered nor returned. That it was because he had no tangible information on the reported case that he did not get back to me before I made the post. He furthered informed me that it was after my post and the accompanying attention it generated that the Contractor only came out to claim responsibility for the instruction to the villagers. This mix up, though the post has achieved multiple unintended objectives beyond the unfortunate misrepresention of the action of the villagers, I AM SORRY and take full responsibility for that. Certainly, I cannot stereotype a community let alone the entire LGA as been mispresented. We are great people just as we should also be bold enough to point out errors correctly. Had it been that, Hon. Usman Ochidi got appropriate prompt response from those he contacted after I reported to him and i also got feedback from him, I shouldn't have made the post. Clearly, my intention is pure even as it unfortunately hurt some people. This is because of the fact that the Idah - Umomi road in question has been left abandoned for the past 13 years with numerous empty political promises as response to our hue and cry to that pivotal road to the traditional headquarters of Igala land. Beyond this, I have once again refrained myself from joining issues with Usman Okai Austin for the obvious reason that the eyes that knoweth someone in the night and come out in the day time to deny that person is an irresponsible one. I think those that are trying to ethnicise the issue and or making political meaning from the post should "traficate and park well.....". Even as I have serious issues with the action of the Contractor as it relates to the expected qualities of their work, I humbly reserve my comments for the sake of the members of the communities that were unfortunately misrepresented in the earlier post. Finally, those that shared the earlier post for political and or ethnic motives should also be bold enough to share this to balance the reported incidents accordingly

AND WHY IS NAIRALAND BLOCKING THIS USEFULL information?

This is obviously a damage control from you and the contractor to save face for the community.
You said that the Chairman of the contracting company earlier claimed ignorance of why the people were stealing the granites. Then you said that the contractor later claimed that he instructed the community to pack the granites. Why would he do that? No explanation.
And if the contractor actually instructed them to pack the granites, why would they run from you when you approached them? It's because they were stealing.
I believe that what happened here is this: After you exposed the ignoble act of the community, which portrayed them negatively, the leaders put pressure on you to retract.

You dey your house dey talk. Pontificating and self righteous.

Do you see the hunger and depression in the eyes of those children ? Do they look like they eat 2 meals a day ?
In a country where a road project can go on for decades eg Lagos-Ibadan, East -West road, you expect people to have patience and forbearance while fat cats in business and government skim off their share now ?
Stop blaming the victims. Nigeria is a near failed state and the citizenry is not to blame

The classic "Play the victim". Before the arrival of Western Civilization, there was never any documentation of hunger or Poverty, hard-working men and women tilled the soil, farmed and harvested for their families. Today, everyone waits for the government or their fellow countryman to come feed them, even worse, most pray for food, in 2017!!!

A nation blessed with good soil, steady rainfall, great climate, yet people can't dig up the soil and plant a seed but would rather beg for alms or wait for the government. The Middle East is mostly desertified, however, they seem to be doing pretty well for themselves in the food department. So, keep waiting for the government to come serve you food in your home.

This type of road surface finish is the old system used before the advent of asphalt overlay. Removing those granite chipping will damage the road, because the granite chipping are suppose to fuse and penetrate the s125 bitumen under the chipping to form a solid final wearing course

Point of correction o00... The intention of this gravel carrier is for beautification of there compound, toilet/bathroom(moudy). Some of them even pour it on the floor(uncemented) of their living room.
Helping the poor is a blessing. Kindly look at the way the road is being constructed, not even nylon coated. I don't think was contracted to any of the standard construction company.
Project like this are been subcontracted by political Lord to their family members and friends. They form a company name and register courtecy CAC. They will go further to rent construction tools and crest company logo on them for the time being.
Projects like this are never commissioned! Snapshot is what they see in Govt house.
Most of us can attest to halfway and abandoned projects in our various hometown. Project like this are re-awarded project by every sitting government.
Its so unfortunate that most of the political Lord we see as the light of our world are the ones trading the progress of our community for themselves and there children.
Very soon, the rich with good intentions will stand by the masses and exposes the wicked thieves and they shall pay the price accordingly. #junglejusticeuponthewickedpoliticians

Did it ever occur to you or your three cheerleaders that one major reason these villagers are so destitute is because there are no good roads leading to their village? What they are doing is the equivalent of a farmer consuming even the seeds he will need for his next planting: they are basically guaranteeing they will never have the smallest chance of rising out of the poverty they are stuck in.

they are typical nigerians

it has nothing to with hunger per se. before that road construction started, they were engaged in some other form of hustling; selling fruits, farming etc.

now that road construction is going on , they see it as an opportunity to make some quick money

it is the same way people going about their daily hustle abandon it to scoop fuel from a fallen truck

it is the same way a civil servant with a salary will abuse his position in a project he is overseeing to corner kickbacks

or a dpr official will abuse the fuel scarcity to shake down station dealers

or a station dealer who would use the fuel scarcity to hoard, or divert product

or a station pump attendant who would start demanding n1000 to fill jerrycans

go to orile; the people doing alaaru and carrying load will turn to robbers at night once there is a traffic jam

each and everyone of these people is earning a living, yet at any small opportunity, they become thieves

all the thieves in senate, government etc, are from the pool of nigerians, and they are doing the exact same thing on a bigger scale.

@Go to Orile. A very wise poster you are I must say. I've often mentioned to people in Lagos, how can anyone make a living selling toothpicks or rat traps in Lagos? It's impossible but then you wonder why crime in the city is high compared to other states. These individuals will leave their current occupation at any given opportunity, be it robbery, be stealing or even contract killers.

I have often heard this quoted and I have never seen the sense in it.

When Stalin murdered millions of his countrymen, Russians deserved him ? When Hitler led his country to destruction Germans deserved that ? Nigeria deserved Abacha ? South Africans deserved to be oppressed under apartheid ? Rwandans deserved their genocide (which was the choice of the elite? Ugandans deserved Idi Amin ? Cambodians were gifted Pol Pot by God ?
I think not.

Someone up there has mentioned that Nigerians have no concept of "the common good". They do and will work towards it, when the good is common. You cannot work toward a common good when you are hungry, or in concert with strangers. What connects the man from Ogun with Adamawa and why should he work with him ? It is the contraption that is faulty not the people.

Since you know a bit of political science let me remind you of another concept from that discipline State Capture. The subordination of the machinery and powers of government to elite interests. That is what is occurring in Nigeria
Do not deceive yourself that you pick your rulers. Elections in Nigeria are a farce. A forced choice from among pre-selected candidates. We pretend to vote and the elite pretend we have a choice. That is how we end up with Obasanjo's, Jonathan's, YarAduas and Buharis

Believe it or not, people get the leadership they deserve. You ask if Russians deserved Stalin, or Germans deserved Hitler, or Nigerians deserved Abacha, etc.
Of course they all deserved those leaders at that time. Did you think that Stalin personally took guns and started shooting and killing Russians. Of course not. He gave orders that were enthusiastically carried out by Russians to kill fellow Russians. In that same Russia/Soviet Union, Boris Yeltsin led a popular revolt that toppled the leadership. In that revolt, you could see Soviet Soldiers with their armored tanks, happily joining the revolt that they were supposed to crush.
Same thing happened in the old Yugoslavia.
In Nigeria, we had Abacha. Just before he struck, many Nigerians (including the winner of the annulled election) were calling on the military to come and take over from the Interim Civilian government. When he took over, there was jubilation on the streets (you can always count on Nigerian sycophancy). When it was time to hand power back to civilians, I remember there were different groups willingly fronting for Abacha, and demanding that he continues as civilian President. I see the same thing happening with Buhari who has clearly demonstrated his unsuitability for the position by his incompetence and his open show of ethnic and religious bias. And I know that majority of Nigerians voted for him. Years from now, you will probably tell us Nigerians did not deserve him.
As for Hitler, majority of Germans then were pro Hitler and his policies. He was popular among Germans. He was not imposed on them.
I am sure you are aware of how the Gambians voted to remove the dictator Jahmeh. I also hope you are keeping in touch with events in South Africa as regards Zuma, where they just removed him as leader of the ruling ANC.
As for the concept of State Capture, it is not peculiar to Nigeria. In every society, it is the elites that call the shots. It's the same everywhere including US and Europe.

Elections in Nigeria are not a farce as you claim. We always have the opportunity to vote for our choice. The problem is that the average Nigerian votes based on ethnic interests. The voting pattern is usually along ethnic line, not based on a candidate's ability.
You say that our election is among preselected candidates. Did you expect the whole 180million Nigerians to be presented for elections?
You also say that it is the contraption that is at fault and not the people. I agree of course that the contraption is the problem. That is why I am a strong advocate of restructuring. And in 2019, my number one criterion for voting a candidate, among other qualities, will be a strong belief in restructuring by the candidate.
I am sure you are aware that there is a strong opposition to restructuring by probably a large majority of Nigerians. It is the people that put the contraption in place, right? Is it not the people that should change that contraption? If the people do not agree to changing the contraption, who should take the blame?
I hope I was able to convince you that people get the leadership they deserve (not necessarily the one they want or hope for).
