Notorious cult leader and kidnap kingpin, Don Waney, said to have masterminded the killing of 23 Omoku residents in Rivers State on New Year day has been gunned down by a combined team of troops of 82 Division Nigerian Army Enugu and personnel of the Rivers State Command of the Department of State Services, DSS.

DSS surveillance on him and his gang revealed that after committing atrocities in Rivers state, the mass murderer rented an apartment in a neighbourhood within Enugu town in Enugu State where he started living among unsuspecting neighbours within the community.

When security operatives raided the hideout to arrest him and his accomplices, Don Waney, his Second-in-Command, identified as Ikechukwu Adiele, and another gang member, Lucky Ode, tried to escape through the back exit of the apartment but were in the process shot by troops.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Aminu Iliyasu, which disclosed that one of the gang members died on the spot while two others who sustained gun shot wounds eventually died while being evacuated for medical attention.
