Dear TV doctor,

There is a 32 inch Kelvinator LED TV that turns off totally after about 15 minutes of working. When that happens, even the remote will not turn it back on as the standby light goes off completely. To turn the TV back on will require unplugging it from the mains and plugging it back in. Only then does the standby light come back on and so does the TV using the remote.

The problem again repeats itself after about another 15 minutes of working. I have tried going thru the on-screen menu for possible solutions but none has addressed it. I have even tried re-setting to default, which changed the language from English to default Chinese and it took some challenges to get things back to the more familiar English language.

Please what do you think is the problem?

Yours faithfully,
Troubled user

Got this skyrun android smart tv online brand new the issue is that the screen flickers at intervals. What could be the cause?

Hello.

What is the measured power consumption (in watts) of your Skyrun Android TV?

Does it have option for "Power Saving Mode" or "Power Saver" or "Energy saver"?

What does the power consumption reduce to when the power saver is activated?

GRACEGLORY:

All the electronics terminology and acronyms can be confusing.

HD TV stands for “High Definition” TV. HD is any TV displaying a 720p or higher (1080, 4K, etc.) resolution image.

HDTV refers to the detail level of a screen; or to put it another way, the number of pixels that are packed into a display. A pixel is the smallest visible element on a display, the ‘dots’ that combine to make up the overall picture.

LED TV is a type of LCD television that uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to backlight the display instead of the cold cathode fluorescent lights (CCFLs) used in standard LCD televisions. LED TVs are more formally known as LED-backlight LCD television.

An LED LCD TV can be HD if it has a high resolution (as explained in the first sentence above).

Then going by that logic, a CCFL backlit LCD TV can be modded and converted to LED backlit variant by simply swapping standard TV LED lights in for the CCFL and along with the corresponding LED board/circuitry controllers.

I'm a tinkerer and would love to experiment this with a 22 inch retired long time ago.

NB: Reason for thinking in that line is energy efficiency. The 50 watts it consumes standard is likely due to the CCFLs. LED backlighting will lessen that to around 30 watts (better if the LED control board will have option for PWM control settings to reduce the backlight intensity, aiming at more power saving).

Coming from 10 years LG 42 inch, I've been on a Hisense 55 inch smart for one and a half years now. So far so good there's been no hitches with the Hisense. The LG is still going strong by the way, but I got assurances that Hisense is equally durable, reason I went for it.

However in image rendering and image definition, LG may still stand taller than Hisense.

Which of the Hisense, Western or Fouani’s. If your review is based on the latter, you’re wrong.

Sorry about your experience. The issue could be the power, or the board.

Good day @GraceGlory.
I’m torn between buying a smart Tv and buying a regular Tv then buy a firestick to use for streaming on it. I believe smart TVs are so expensive so why incur all that cast while an Amazon firestick can make ur regular Tv a smart one. Kindly give me your inputs on this please, God bless.

Yes, it’s cheaper using a streaming device with a regular TV, cost effective. But another perspective is, is it satisfactory?

First, let’s look at TV display, regular TVs don’t come with better displays as the smart TVs that varies, 2K, 4K, and 8K displays. Movie displays are improving, no matter the Queens display or picture quality of the movies being streamed via the streamer, you won’t get the quality of the pictures on regular TVs.

Smart TV includes an operating platform which allow one access, and to manage, as well as view both online and network media stuffs without connection to a media streamer. The media streamer is capable of this as well, but, the smart tv goes some extra mile, for instance, some have capacity for Miracast and Screen Sharing, this allow users view content from compatible mobile devices on a TV screen. Some smart TVs are capable of reversing this technology by sending content from the TV to a compatible mobile device. And user can continue to view content on the mobile device, even away from the Smart TV. The streaming device isn’t capable of that.

Smart TVs offers more than just connected services. Smart TVs gives better/excellent video processing. Excellent picture quality I’m insinuating. Smart TVs also have expanded features, some of them are, more HDMI, USB, ports, Satellite capacity, Dolby sounds, et’ cetera. That means you get more for your money than just an internet connection and apps. Smart TVs also offer the best convenience and content, often without costing any more than what you're already paying for your streaming subscriptions.

The streaming device isn’t capable of that. Yes, regular tv with a streamer is cheaper. But do more research so you could decide better.

The Hisense was purchased brand new in Nigeria, so I believe it will be Fouani's.

But does that still invalidate the fact that Samsung and LG et al likely still do better than Hisense in terms of image rendering?

Thanks, point taken. My other hurdle would be this, so I have a 32 inch in my living room, I want to get a big smart Tv to replace it with then move the 32 inch into my bedroom. Pls how can the small Tv in the bedroom to show the same thing as the smart Tv in the living room. Is there some sort of device that will make this easy? Thanks in anticipation of your response

There are some Hisense brand that would blow some Samsung brand away, some TCL that will blow LG away, some Panasonic that will do same, some Toshiba will do same et’ cetera... and also vice-versa. Each Tv brands are in levels.

For instance, An high end LG Tv compared with a midrange Hisense, could make you love LG, now, compare same LG high end with Samsung QLED, and you’d say Samsung is best. Now bring both LG OLED and Samsung QLED side by side, and you may be confused. High end Hisense compared with low end LG will make LG look like rubbish. That’s how it is.

I hope you can relate?

@ bolded. As a seller, you've laid your hands on a lot of TVs so yes, I completely agree that you're an expert at this.

I be like dude wey just dey manage to toast his second lady. I'm no match for guy wey don have leeway with 150 girls. The latter will be a smooth talker and what they call "Yoruba demon".

I only need you to use your experience to provide me with a TV that has the specs that I need. grin I have written it here before but it seems you're yet to get a product that meets all the specs.

Thread softly, that path you’re threading is slippery. Those prices are not the original prices, don’t forget those items are not owned by Jumia, people go up there to put up posts. When you unbox fake Hisense, or LG, you’d have goose bumps as big as pox. grin
