1, 030 stranded Nigerians in Libya were rescued between Jan. 7, 8- NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Director-General, Maihaja Mustapha, has disclosed that no less than 1, 030 stranded Nigerian migrants in Libya have been evacuated between January 7 and 8 2018, in a bid to ensure that lives of Nigerians in that country was safe.

However, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) estimated that 2,832 migrants died in 2017 trying to reach Italy from North Africa, down from 4,581 in 2016, while 119,310 people made it alive to Italy in 2017 against 181,436 in 2016.

The Guild, reported that Libya became a lawless country after a long-time dictator Gaddafi, was overthrown by a NATO-supported armed revolt, which resulted to the country becoming a major haven for illegal immigrants from neighboring African countries.
