Gani Adams, leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), has called on Yorubas to protect themselves from the Fulani herdsmen. Adams said OPC will not involve itself in helping to secure the South-West from the attack of the herdsmen. The OPC leader also said his men lost the interest to protect the Yorubas, due to various derogatory remarks people have made about the group. Adams chided traditional rulers in the South-West, saying “When one is too fanatic in religion, it brings shame, religion is good, but when it becomes fanatic, it brings ridicule. “If we are being moderate in our religions in Yoruba land, be it Christian, Muslim or traditional religions, who dare bring attack into our communities?” Adams said this at a lecture organised by the Ondo state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), tagged: Herdmen/ Fulani clashes : what implication for inter- Ethnic relations/ Nigerian Economy. OPC warned Yorubas to avoid Buhari but they insulted them. Buhari will win in 2019 and then, begin the final push into the South through the South West and by then, we will see how Tinubu will protect the SW from Fulani herdsmen terrorists without OPC whom he destroyed by giving them a bad name. bloodmoneyspita: He meant religious fanatism makes people sheepish instead of being alert / bold and that Yorubas should not get carried away with religion at the detriment of their people. Most religious people will rather complain and pray than take up arms to protect themselves. Recently we've had traditional leaders claiming to be sons of Jesus and there's a particular young bling bling oba in osun who seems to be more interested in fashion / Islamic religion than traditional belief. Considering recent Fulani herdsmen attacks I think he must be concerned about Yoruba not allowing religion rob them of appropriate decision in tackling Fulani militia terrorists herdsmen if and when the need arise. |
