Nigeria’s oldest airline, Aero Contractors on Thursday, January 11, rolled out aircraft routine maintenance programme for airlines in Nigeria, West, and Central African regions.

The Nigerian-grown maintenance facility that appears to be the only facility of such in the region, is currently focused on Boeing 737 aircraft types with routine checks ranging from A(simple)-check to C(complex)- checks.IMG 3046 600x400 - Aero Contractors Rolls Out Local Aircraft Maintenance Programme (Photos)

The airline, described the milestone as a game-changer for the Nigerian aviation industry while unveiling the first Boeing B737-500 aircraft, and have successfully completed the C-check at Aero’s hanger in Lagos.

Among other aviation stakeholders at the unveiling ceremony, the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika applauded the airline with the support of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), for what he described as the giant stride that will save the sector millions of dollars yearly.

Although, the airline had been taken over by AMCON in 2016, the airline, while on the brink of collapse due to the crisis in the sector, swiftly switched focus to upgrading its Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) towards providing the much-needed routine maintenance locally.
