Good day all,

If you clicked on this link, it means you are interested in a freelance career.
A freelancer is not only based on working online. A freelancer is someone who works for himself without being under anyone, someone who exchange his time and skills for income by rendering services to clients. So if you are a painter, plumber, hair stylist, private investigator, writer, etc and you work for yourself, that makes you a freelancer.

Two days ago, I saw a post on twitter of a man looking for a group of people who will do a survey for a company, I applied and got the job to be paid after the survey is completed. Now I can say i'm working as a freelancer as am not under the company.
Now am saying that the work environment of Nigeria is changing gradually especially with the introduction of "Entrepreneurship" by the government and other organisation.
Using this company that employed me as an example, am sure they have other employees, but they decided to work through outsiders. It is simple, they trying to cut labour cost, it is what all companies are doing now.

Not to forget, this company who employed me is also a vendor to another bigger company with a contractual relationship. So if your dream is finding a big company to employ you then rethink because they don't have your interest at heart, they are only concerned about you working to keep the revenue flowing.

Most companies prefer to employ few staffs and hire contractors and freelancers to work for them without commitment. If you have workerd in the oil and gas sector then this shouldnt be new to you. SPDC is a big oil company but most of their jobs are done by vendors (contractors) and that is why dropping off staffs has no effect on the company negatively but helping them cut expenses.

Having learnt about what is going on in the Work environment of Nigeria, do you still think it is advisable to keep submitting cv like a postman to companies who will drop previous workers and employ new desperate job seekers who will do anything to get employed, thereby underpaying them?

Freelancing is a great foundation for starting an entrepreneurial journey in the business world.
For those people who have business ideas but no funds, Freelancing is a good way to use your skills and offer services to clients and earn income. You have the opportunity to explore your different skills and make money with them.
From your income, you can fund your business idea and become an entrepreneur.

FINDING CLIENTS TO WORK FOR

This is one challenge some people encounter, trying to find who to work for especially students who don't have an office or point of meeting. There are lots of freelance websites online where you can get freelance jobs but mostly international platforms where the competition is high.
we have like freelancer.com, odesk, elance, peoplehour, etc.

Me personally, have few issues with these sites e.g

*Payment issues , that is getting paid as Nigeria don't have the receive money feature on PayPal.
*For a new user, chance of getting a job is slim,
*These available jobs are mostly online jobs and not everyone who is willing to work can be a computer literate who can work online.

INTRODUCING ONE OF NIGERIA'S FIRST FREELANCE WEBSITE

No doubt, they are other freelance, gig websites in Nigeria which are mainly focused on "work online", i have seen few local freelance websites that are based for lagos residents.
Most job websites are focused on Professional employment jobs, Some are focused on online freelance jobs but we need to understand that the uneducated or non-graduate also need to work and earn a living and also to the non-computer literate who can't work online.

Everything is changing that soon our certificates won't do us any good but only our skills can answer for us.

AFRO-FREELANCERS HUB is one of Nigeria's first freelance marketplace that is focused on the whole mass, no one is been neglected and deprived of his right to earn income legally. One of the reason of Africa having record of high rate of fraud and criminal record is because of citizens been idle and no legal means of earning income. Afro-freelancers hub recognises all skills and connects them to clients and individuals seeking similar services.
AFRO-FREELANCERS HUB is an online platform that connects people who work as a freelancers to people (clients who are seeking services). On this website, they are two users which are;

A client post a job by using the "the start project" tab, write project description, state budget price and location of jobs then he has the option to upload files relating to the job, pdf,mp3,jpeg, etc.
Then interested workers, read the job description and click on the "bid" button to bid for job. You write a short letter and state how much you are willing to charge for that task. Clients gets to review bids from his end and contact his preferred worker and they discuss how to meet and get the job done along side with getting paid.
AFRO-FREELANCERS HUB has no hand or involvement in payment plans, our only purpose is to connect clients with workers. Workers and clients are to meet face to face (applying safety precautions) and discuss how to get the work done, how much to be paid and how payment should be received.
