Location:West Africa, bodering the North Atlantic Ocean between Benin and Cameroon. Her Federal Capital Territory is Abuja.
Nigeria has a population range of about 125,514,501, while her currency in Naira, which is One Hundred Kobo. The official language the people use is English. Nigeria has a total area of 923,770 square kilometres. This land area is slightly more than twice the size of California in the U.S.A.
The land boundaries of Nigeria have a total of 4,047 km shared among Benin (773 km), Cameroon (1,690 km), Chad (87 km) and Niger (1,497 km) respectively. Her coastline is 853 km while her major rivers are Niger and Benue. She has eight seaports. Nigerian Maritime claims are: Continental shelf: 200m depth or to the depth of exploitation. Exclusive economic zone is 200m, her territorial sea is 30mm.
Nigeria's major International disputes centre on: Demarcation of international boundaries in Lake Chad, the lack of which led to border incidents in the past now completed and awaiting ratification by Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria. Another dispute with Cameroon over land and maritime boundaries in the vicinity of the Bakassi Peninsula was referred to the International Court of Justice who decided the case in favour of Cameroon.
The climate of Nigeria varies along equatorial in South tropical in centre and arid in the North. Nigerian terrain shows that southern lowlands merge into central hills and plateaus mountains in southeast plains in North. The two major natural hazards are periodic droughts and floods.
Nigeria's natural resources include: Petroleum, Tin, Columbite, Iron-ore, Coal, Limestone, Lead, Zinc, Natural gas. The land use in Nigeria shows: Arable land (31%), Permanent crops (3%), Meadows and Pastures (23%), Forest and Woodland (15%), while others put together is 28%. Irrigated land in Nigeria is 8,650 sq km (as at 1989).
