An 83-year-old woman, Malama Sa’adatu
Isyaku, was killed by a fire in Kwajala village
of Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa
on Saturday.
The spokesman of the Police Command in
Jigawa state, DSP Abdu Jinjiri, confirmed the
incident to the News Agency of Nigeria
(NAN) in Dutse.
He said that the fire started at about 4:50
a.m and was suspected to have been
caused by a burning firewood kept by the
late woman to keep her room warm.
“The Police gathered reports that a burning
firewood was kept inside the room of one
Sa’adatu Isyaku, aged 83yrs of Kwajala
village in Dutse L.G.A.”
“She was said to have put the burning
firewood in the room to keep it warm.”
“Of which, resulted in the fire outbreak that
engulfed the entire house and burnt her to
death.”
Jinjiri explained that her corpse has been
removed and taken to the hospital by the
Police, she was confirmed dead by the
doctor on arrival.
He added that her corpse has been handed
to her relatives for burial.
The police spokesman warned the public
against indiscriminate and careless use of
fire, especially during the harmattan season.
An early morning fire had, on Monday,
destroyed 36 houses, 46 silos and killed 40
goats and sheep in Abanderi village in the
same local government area.
