MDCAN Charge FG To End LASSA Fever Outbreak in Nigeria.

The Medical And Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) has charged the government to quickly take up steps that will contain the resurfaced LASSA Fever outbreak in some states in Nigeria.

It urged the government to make available adequate drugs for treatment of the affected persons to curtail the spread of the disease across the states of the country.

This was contained in an eight point communiqué issued at the end of the National Executive Council Meeting of the association held in Awka, wants Nigerians to free their environments of rodents that can endanger thé lives of others through the spread of lasser fever .
Presenting the communiqué at the end of the meeting,  the National President of MDCAN Professor Ngim Ewezu-Ngim called on relevant agencies of the Federal and state governments to quickly take steps to contain the outbreak by ensuring that drugs needed for the treatment are provided saying that MDCAN is ready to work with the government to address the challenge.

The communiqué called on doctors to always observe universal precautions while attending to patients by using protective devices and charged all relevant organs of government to expedite action towards resolving all outstanding issues regarding remuneration and welfare of her members and other health workers.

The NEC which had in attendance one hundred and seventy one delegates from across the country resolved that Federal government should establish more medical universities in order to enhance the funding and capacity for undergraduate medical training in all zones of the country saying that such move would improve the doctor population ratio and positively impact health care delivery in Nigeria.

On the issue of insecurity in parts of the country,  the communiqué urged security agencies to as a matter of urgency take immediate steps to contain thé security challenges like kidnapping,  herdsmen attack among others.

It urged the National Assembly to accelerate action towards the passage of the Tertiary Hospital Development Bill  fund and appeal to them to sure up the proposed 2018 budget appropriation bill presented  by the executive to meet up with the international standard expected of the budget to equip hospitals and reduce the spate of medical tourism in the country.

The NEC of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) also draw concern in the communiqué by challenging the federal government to come up with robust plans that would stem the tide of incessant herdsmen killings and end insecurity in the country.
