Four Typical Bad Hires to Avoid
Some employees can change overnight, during the interview, they tend to be agreeable, all smiles, possess some needed skills etc. But when hired on the job, another behavior is portrayed.

Perhaps he or she needs more opportunity to adapt, yet warning sign behaviors could likewise flag that a major mistake was made.

Here are four types of typical bad hires

The Bad Attitude
A new hire with a bad attitude is one of the biggest mistakes for a hiring manager. Being disrespectful or insubordinate, endlessly complaining, or indicating that things were better “at my former job” could be disturbing.

To avoid this problem, be careful of candidates who are confrontational or negative from the onset. If they can’t be positive in the interview, it could be a sign of worse things to come.

The Liars
Some candidates may lie about skills they possess so they would be at an advantage in getting the job. This could be a huge let down for an employer as you already had your hopes high regarding that position.

To avoid this, you could verify the candidate’s skills and experience by carrying out a background check where appropriate. Another way is to include an on the job trial in the hiring process to be sure of the skills he/she claims to possess.

The Helpless One
These are employees whom, after series of explanation and training, they never seem to get it. They are never able to accomplish tasks on their own and keep asking for help. They become more of a liability to you than an asset when they refuse to make decisions on their own.

When an employee exhibits such an attitude, the employer needs to understand why and how you could be of help. Perhaps, give the employee some tools they could use to be successful. During the interview process, candidates could also be asked if there was ever a time when he learnt something on his own.

The Ghost Workers
These are the workers who can’t be found. They just began yet they already come in late, leave early or vanish amid the day with personal excuses, or they immediately ask for vacation time.

Ensure you have a discussion about paid time off and punctuality before a candidate is hired so you can identify any authentic barriers to them keeping their contracted hours.
