ABUJA: The Gov. Nasir El Rufai Committee on True Federalism has submitted its report to the National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, calling for more devolution of powers to the states. Specifically, the committee urged that the police and prisons be moved from the exclusive to the concurrent list.
By this, state governments would be allowed to establish state police to handle certain crimes as well as state prisons. The committee equally recommended independent candidacy but with a caveat that individuals who intend to stand for elections must not have been a member of any political party at least six months to the elections in which they intend to contest. On local government autonomy, the committee said since “one size does not fit all”, the states should be allowed to legislate for local governments, including creating more councils.

A far cry from what Nigerians are yearning for.
Nigeria need to be restructured first and when it is,other state apparatus would automatically fall into the control of the regions.
This is just a ploy to placate the regions clamouring for restructuring and they should not buy into this half baked crust.
In full restructuring we stand

Dead on arrival...El Rufai of all people who has shown his bias and Hypocrisy?

In the scheme of National relevance and patriotism, El Rufai is a nobody, Buhari appointing him to head something as important as national conference discuss is height of mockery

I will wait and read the full report before I comment in detail. The current Local Government structure should be scrapped and each State allowed to create as many LGAs as they want and manage it according to resources available to them.

States Should control their resources and pay taxes /royalties to the Central Government. Any State that's not viable should merge. If these are not included in the report that means the report is useless

What of resource control by State Government? In fact the Federal Government should withdraw from Constructing road, Hospitals, Train, Power And Education all these suppose to belong to state or Regional. The Federal Government should only focus on Security,Economic and Foreign affairs.

Isn't it laughable that a man who doesn't believe in restructuring heads a committee on same cheesy

And the FG expects any sane individual to believe there'll be sincerity of purpose from such committee?

The days of patch patch arrangements that'll keep the country together are gone. We either restructure genuinely or allow each region go its own way.

All these in a bid to scam unsuspecting Nigerians for reelection in 2019. If El Rufai and his gang of tricksters really mean business they should submit those recommendations to the president who will in turn present them as an Executive Bill to the National Assembly for passage into law but Nigerians should be rest assured such would never happen. This is another ploy to fool Nigerians once again. Shine your eyes compatriots.

We don't want state police. Igbos living in the north will be subjected to all manner of abuse and intimidation by their sharia police force. State prisons would also be a waste of resources. What we want is restructuring our wasteful bi-cameral national assembly, restructuring the revenue sharing formular to favour states and local governments ahead of the federal government and rotational presidency that must start with Igbos and an anambra indigene.

The greatest injustice is trying to make equals unequal and unequals equal; things are not done like that.

Correct! Restructuring is the goal, the regions can take it from there.

Is this not part what Tinubu's camp have been campaigning for since antiquity?
If our neighbiurs across the niger had bought into this during the last national conference, there biafra dream would have been closer to reality. Anyway, its a good one and we are little by little.

what a selfish idiottt.

this is the reason Igbos will never have a president, in-fighting and supremacy battles.

you claim fulanis are supremacists but anambra man won't have umahi or Okorocha be the next president.

selfish dolt. you anambras are too supremacists and if you can't accept all Igbos are equal you should prepare to live beyond 100years without any igbo president.

look at him demanding for it like Nigeria belongs to anambra.

#Spits on anambra supremacists.
