Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti believes the Premier League title is within grasp after a nervous 1-0 victory against Bolton Wanderers put the Blues four points clear at the summit.

A first-half goal from Nicolas Anelka, his first in 14 games, was enough to secure victory at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, although Chelsea were lucky to survive two penalty appeals against John Terry and Didier Drogba.

Chelsea have breathing space ahead of second-placed Manchester United and can afford to lose one of their remaining four matches and still win the title for the first time since 2006.

“Now the Premier League is in our hands and we have to stay focused and calm,” Ancelotti said. ”We have to play game by game, and we are not interested in the results of the other teams.

“There was pressure on us to get this result because we needed to improve our position, but I think the players now have very good motivation to arrive well to the end of the season.

“We had 21 shots, so we deserved to win. There‘s no debate about this. It was difficult because, when you‘re 1-0 up, you have to be careful right to the end. For me, it was a very good performance.”

“Now we have more possibility to win the title than, with respect, Manchester United and Arsenal, but we are not sure yet. We have to play four tough games and we know that we have to fight again. But we‘re ready to fight.”

Captain Terry urged his team-mates to go on and make history by winning the league and FA Cup double. Should the Blues press home their league advantage and beat Portsmouth in the FA Cup final they will become the seventh team to do the Double.

Terry said, ”There‘s a real togetherness in the squad. We now have the chance to make some history this season and we are all determined to achieve it.

“We have not won the league for the last three years. We‘ve won the FA Cup twice in that time. We have never won the league and cup double.”
