Delta Taking Advantage Of The Dry Season To Address The Issue Of Flooding.* by HenryUbus12345(m): 7:32pm On Jan 28, 2018

Reporting for
Directorate of Orientation.

Asaba sits within the tropics and as such it is subject to heavy rainfall for much of the year.
The flooding experienced in Asaba is due to certain factors such as:
- the virtually flat topography of Asaba which makes drainage difficult
- many drainages in the Capital are not interconnected
- Silt of the drainages arising from incessant dumping of waste by residents
- Neglect to regular clearing of silt in drainages

Asaba, the State capital and some major cities/towns across the State experienced heavy flooding in 2017 and we would recall that His Excellency, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa called for patience amongst Deltans as his Administration has taken strident steps to check perennial flooding in the State.
We all appreciate the fact that no meaningful work can be done during the rainy season and it was hoped and believed that more definite measures to tackle the issue of flood will be executed during the dry season.

Our amiable Governor, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa is not called EKWUEME for nothing.
The dry season is here and true to his words, massive definitive work is currently ongoing to tackle the issue of flood across the State.
- The Gov. Okowa-led Administration has approved the contract for the Construction of Sewer along Direct Labour Agency/Jesus Saves Road, Asaba.
And work has commenced.
- The Gov. Okowa-led Administration has commenced the clearing and opening up of blocked water channels and also clearing of silt from drainages across the State.
This will invariably aid free and rapid flow of flood water to the nearby natural water body when the rains set in.
- The Gov. Okowa-led Administration has also commenced laying of Giant Underground Drains at Anwai Road adjacent to the Federal Medical Center, Asaba.
This particular project is a major breakthrough and it will ease, to a very large extent, flooding in Asaba environs.

These interventions will be completed before the Rains begin and perennial flooding will most certainly have been addressed to a very large extent.
