Taraba LG Boss Escapes Death in Herdsmen Attack

By Wole Ayodele in Jalingo

The Chairman of Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, Daniel Adi, yesterday narrowly escaped being killed by herdsmen who attacked him at Gidin Dorowa village, a suburb of Wukari.

Similarly, the Chairman of Takum Local Government Area, Shiban Tikari, equally escaped being killed by armed robbers along Takun-Chanchanji- Wukari road yesterday morning.

Narrating his ordeal to journalists on phone, Adi stated that he had gone to Gidin Dorowa in company of a security team comprising of police and civil defence to access the level of damage following an attack in the area last Saturday night by herdsmen.

According to him, herdsmen had on Saturday evening attacked a village around Gidin Dorowa and killed a Tiv man on his farm and yesterday morning, he mobilised his security team to the area on an on the-spot-assessment.

But on arrival at Gidin Dorowa, some herdsmen opened fire on him and the security team and it took the swift response of the security team to repel and overpower them.

Three of the herdsmen who confessed to have been drafted to the area as reinforcements, were apprehended by the security men who eventually moved them to the police command headquarters in Jalingo for further investigation.

According to the chairman, “On sighting me and the security team which was made up of the police and civil defence, they opened fire, but the security overpowered them and they took to their heels.

“It was in the course of pursuing them that we apprehended three Fulani men who later confessed that they were called for reinforcement by the Fulani militia that attacked us. Those arrested have already been taken to the state police command in Jalingo for further investigation.”

Adi however stated that the attack might not be unconnected with last week’s report of arms delivery in the area by an helicopter precisely at Jibu village and therefore called for the deployment of more security to the area as well as thorough investigation of the matter.

Also yesterday morning, Shiban Tikari narrowly escaped armed robbery attack along Takum- Chanchanji-Wukari road while his driver was whisked away by the robbers but was later released.

This is coming less than one week after the burial of Hosea Ibi, a member of the state House of Assembly who was abducted in Takum on December 30, 2017 and was later killed after an undisclosed amount was paid to his abductors as ransom.

Speaking on the development, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ishaku on Public Affairs, Emmanuel Bello, told journalists that the chairman was attacked on his way to Donga to attend a thanksgiving service.

Bello, who hails from Takum, further revealed that the chairman was driving in another car with his Donga counterpart in a convoy when the incident occurred just as he called for the reinforcement of the Joint Benue/Taraba military task force to help check the level of insecurity in the area.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, David Misal, said it was clearly a robbery attack and that chairman’s personal car was snatched by the robbers.

He, however, refrained from speaking on the attack on the chairman of Wukari by herdsmen, saying he was yet to be briefed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in charge of the area.

elrufai gave them money last year. he didn't do it in secrete.
elrufai has never condemned these useless fulani herdsmen

when the emir of kano finally spoke he said the killings going on was because 800 fulani herdsmen where killed in taraba
he did not condemn their terrorist activities

when the minister of defence spoke he said the ban on open grazing caused all these killings and assassinations, he did not condem the killings

do I even need to mention the dullard? all he wants is 2019
which he won't get.
