An alleged criminal involved in a murder case in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State has escaped from Police custody in Bakassi Police Divisional headquarters.

The suspect, Essien Ita was alleged to have been involved in the murder of chief Eyo Eyo Bassey who was assassinated some time ago in 2017.

A source who preferred anonymity said that when Essien was granted bail late last year, he went back to the brother of the deceased Village head of Ikot- Obot to threaten him.

“When he was granted bail, he went back to the younger brother of Chief Eyo Eyo Bassey who was assassinated last year to threaten his life and vowed that he will make sure he too was also killed as like his elder brother.
