The Greatest Xi Of The 21st Century by fseumairez10: 6:30pm On Jan 30, 2018
GIANLUIGI BUFFON

When football neutrals were supporting Juventus to win the the UCL last season,it was because of Buffon. That together with the Euros championship are the only trophies that has eluded his glorified career. It could have being Casillas name up there, but the former spain no.1 could not stay on top of his game and was frozen out of his boyhood darling team. But 40 years old Buffon has remained top of his game since the beginning of this century till now, little wonder that before your fancy managers came up with 'ball playing goalkeepers",he was the most expensive goal keeper in the world plus juventus highest transfer before Gonzalo higuain. You just cant hate this man!!

PHILIPP LAHM

The then little man cut in from the left wing and launched a right footed strike to the top corner, the goal, the first of the 2006 world cup announced him to the world, and even a casted arm from an injury prior to the tournament couldn't stop his shine .And that wasn't even the position he later flourished .Very versatile and intelligent, the 'magic dwarf' can play at both full backs and also in midfield. He appeared in the team of the tournament for every world cup he played in.world cup winner and UCL winner, there just isn't any right back as good as lahm in this century.

FABIO CANNAVARO

When Italy won the world cup in 2006,they conceded just two goals in the tournament,an own goal against USA and Zidane's penalty in the final in Berlin .Cannavaro was key to these defensive masterclass, hence he earned the nickname wall of berlin for his performance in the final and throughout the tournament where he played every minute. He won FIFA's world best player and ballon d'or the same year and also sealed a move to Real Madrid Where he won multiple laliga titles.Although he peaked relatively late,he still remains one of the best CB of this century.

SERGIO RAMOS

Forget the 24 red cards, forget the series of on field antics .Think of the kind of footballer he is;his last ditch intercepts, his amazing set piece goals, and his big games goals/performances .You will realise that Sergio Ramos is indeed one of the most complete CBs of this century .Even though he won the world cup and one of his two euro championships playing as a right back,he has arguably played his best football at CB.

MARCELO VIERA DOS SANTOS

Paulo maldini once said Marcelo is a great attacker and a great defender,a specialist in both areas. Roberto carlos called him his heir, the world's best left back before conceding that Marcelo has more ability that he does. His attacking style of play has seen him being deployed as a left winger under Manuel pellegrini and Juade Ramos .Although its a very tough decision here Marcelo gets the nod.

ZENEDINE ZIDANE

What else can be said about Zidane,Scorer of the greatest UCL goal against Bayern leverkusen in the final in 2002.He had led France to the world cup in 1998 and Euros championship in 2000 becoming the first nation to hold both titles .His absence from France opening two matches at the 2002 world up ensured their premature elimination from the tournament. Even at the tail end of his career he still dominated the 2006 world cup and ended the year with FIFA's Second best player in the world .Zizou, what a player!!

ANDREA PIRLO

'When Andrea told me he was joining us,the first thing i thought was "God exists".A player of his level and ability, not to mention that he was free,i think it was the signing of the century'. Those were the words of Buffon when pirlo joined Juventus in 2011 after mutually agreeing not to renew his contract with Milan. The world thought the Milan board were crazy too!!.A silent leader, with 2 UCL and a world cup, winning man of the match than any other player in Germany 2006. His forever famous quote 'I don't feel pressure,i don't give a toss about it.I spent the afternoon of sunday,9 July 2006 in Berlin sleeping and playing the play station. In the evening ,i went out and won the world cup'. LEGENDARY!!!

ANDRES INIESTA

Andres Iniesta is a great and he doesn't look like wavering any time soon.Just this weekend against Alaves in the face of Barca's first defeat of the 2017/18 laliga season,he strolled past defenders and delivered a sublime cross to suarez for the equalizer. The great Sir Alex Ferguson once labelled him the heart of Barcelona team. Sleek movement, elegant touches, such a beauty to behold. We just might never see another Iniesta

LIONEL MESSI

Inarguably the best player of the 21st century,Arguably the best player of all time. We all are privileged that messi is of our time. Awards after Awards,Records after Records,Trophies after Trophies. You all know about it!!

RONALDINHO

Ronaldinho made a lot of people fall in love with the round leather game.one word,'skillful'. He had it all and made it look easy everytime. 2 FIFA world player of the year,a world cup in 2002 and a UCL in 2006.He didn't have it going for long because of his off field attitudes, but the moments he gave us in this century will last a lifetime.

CHRISTIANO RONALDO

Yes you read that right, not the delima! Christiano is the greatest goalscorer of the 21st century. Is there any Goal record he is yet to break?? His stats are amazing and incredible!! A lot can be said about him,but the world already knows all about the ballon d'or winner!!!

3 group-stage matches, round of 16 game,quarterfinal,semi-final and final all adding up to seven games to win a world cup,are these enough to add fabio canavarro to the list of century eleven? What happened when he went to madrid? A player needs to be consistent in good football for club and country for many years if he is to be on that list and Fabio cannavarro is the odd man out even though he won the world cup with italy.
