SAY NO TO OMO ONILE DISTURBANCES IN LAGOS.

The title of the law is "LAGOS STATE PROPERTIES PROTECTION LAW 2016"- Commenced 15th of August, 2016.

1. The law prohibits forceful land take over - Section 2(1,2&3) and provides 10 years imprisonment for offenders upon conviction.

2. The only law (correct me if i am wrong) that has retrospective effects, does not matter if the offender has taken over property forcefully before the commencement of the law. see Section 2(2).

3. The law prohibits unauthorized entry either personally, through privy, agents, or even security agencies. section 3 & 7.

4. Unlawful entry to disturb a person's right of occupation or possession with firearms, pepper spray (obnoxious or chemical materials) attracts 4 years imprisonment sanction.

5. An encroacher who fails to leave property when order shall be liable to a fine not exceeding 5million or 5years imprisonment or both. Section 4.

6. An encroacher with firearms is liable to 10 years inprisonment upon conviction. Section 7.

7. Anyone who sells any property knowing fully well that he has no authority to do so either personally or as an agent or lawful attorney or a property already sold is liable to 6 months imprisonment or 500k fine or both/ 5years imprisonment respectively. Section 8.

8. The law prohibits disruption of work whilst demanding fees. sanction for this is 1million naira fine or 2 years imprisonment or both.

9. The law established a "Special Task Force" for the proper enforcement of the law.

10. You can send petition if you believe your rights have been trampled upon to the Coordinator of Lagos State Special taskforce on Land Grabbers Mr. Jide Bakare, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
