Nigeria has always been a secular country and with good reason; even with our secular status, there have been numerous eruptions of inter-religious violence, with thousands of life lost. So why on Earth would a Head of State attempt to Islamise the country?

OIC membership
Babangida (unilaterally, without consultation with other bodies) upgraded Nigeria's role in the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), from a mere observer status to full-fledged membership. After public outcry and denial by Babangida, the John Shagaya panel was instituted to determine Nigeria's status in the OIC, subsequently confirming membership and making a recommendation for withdrawal from the body.

With his reckless and totally irresponsible behaviour, Babangida is directly responsible for some of the violence that has taken place between Muslims and Christians.

Former military dictator Ibrahim Babangida, during 8-year his rule during the 1908s, did exceed his constitutional powers as the head of a SECULAR nation, by secretly signing Nigeria on as a chartered member of the Organization of Islamic Countries.   That ILLEGAL act was and is a clear indication of Babangida's pro-Islamic political ideology, and is well worth a mention now that this documented Islamist once again aspires to hold the reins of absolute power in Nigeria.

Western democracies currently toying with the idea of offering clandestine support for a Babangida 2011 presidency, on account of the retired generals perceived "experience" as a head of state, would do well to seriously reconsider backing that particular horse, given the ever-present peril posed by global Islamic fundamentalism, and the growing strategic significance of sub-Saharan Africa in that context.

Indeed, IBB's desperate religious bias is one of the many things that rule him out.
His past at the helm of government shows several such dangerous decisions and actions. One of his worst attributes is telling lies at the drop of a hat. We deserve better than a congenital lier vying for the highest office.

The funny thing is that IBB himself is not religious. Am sure it was the sultanate that adviced him to register Naija with the OIC.

Now that he is running for elections he says people's religion should be a personal affair

While as leader he enrolled Nigeria as a member of Organisation of Islamic Community.

This is another one in a long list of what IBB is saying this days in other to win an election.

His political arguments are all divorced from his records.

I LIKE THIS POST.It is a very good development. I advise Nigerians to keep their powder dry.
All intending candidates should be held accountable for their past actions. We should meet
them at the polling booth. Lets hope they will give cogent and satisfactory reasons. undecided
