Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture. – Psalm 100:3

To soar above the tides of economic depression and thrive to boot, the next fundamental you need to learn after knowing your God is:

Know Who You Are
It is not enough to know that you have a God who is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent; to whom the whole earth and all its fullness belong. You also need to know who you are in relation to this God.

The passage above captures this perfectly, God is God and not too many people doubt His eminence. However, there are more people who do not know who they are in relation to this Almighty God, and that is why they do not get more than His basic handouts. Even among those who religiously profess Him, not too many have a knowledge-based relationship with Him to warrant them calling Him ‘Abba, Father.’

To prosper in the midst of raging financial storms, you must come to know God in another dimension – as a Shepherd, and yourself as the sheep of His pasture. This is not derogatory or demeaning in any way; if it were so David would not so proudly declare the LORD as his Shepherd in his popular psalm.

Truly knowing God as your shepherd, and yourself as His sheep, avails you a mental shift that redefines your relationship with Him. A strong consciousness of this reality lifts a lot of burdens off your shoulders and shifts them to God. After all what does a sheep do?

A sheep owes most of the initiatives around it to the shepherd. A sheep is fed from pastures it doesn’t grow, nurtured with facilities it doesn’t provide, tended with care it doesn’t control, protected with resources it doesn’t work for, and sheltered in a house it didn’t build. That is the summation of the existence of a sheep. Those who see themselves as sheep of God’s pasture enjoy more.

Mind you, this is not an easy mindset to adopt, because an average human wants to hustle and control his/her destiny. But, while a paradigm shift to Shepherd-sheep relationship doesn’t necessarily make one indolent, it offers a serenity that only comes from the assurance of good guidance and changes entire perception of life. Those who have successfully completed the mental migration are the ones spoken about in Hebrews 4:10: For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.

To be continued…

You will succeed in Jesus Name!
