The Lagos State Government has reminded Local Government Areas that its directive ordering unapproved traffic officials to vacate roads in the state and desist from controlling and enforcing traffic laws was still in force, the reminder of which was reported to have become necessary following several complaints of motorists across the Lagos.

It stated that it was only its approved Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) that has such authority of enforce traffic laws of the state, contrary to situation been reported by members of the public.

The General Manager, Olawale Musa, said that for the avoidance of doubt, the directive of the state government on illegal activities of councils’ officials on roads was still operational.

Speaking to motorists and commuters who visited the agency’s office over excessive activities of the officials, Musa disclosed that the directive of the state government became necessary after reports of how motorists have become victims of the said Local Government traffic officials’ arbitrariness, lack of respect for rule of laws, assault, and illegal apprehension of vehicles, outright extortion and humiliation across Lagos got to notice of the government.
